Loyle Carner - Aint Nothing Changed

In this music video, the singer Loyle Carner has been turned into a older version of
himself. We get shown what he does in his daily life of an old man which is not what
you may expect.

Establishing shot - In this shot we get

shown a establishing shot of a terraced
house which is where the start of the music
video is filmed. The house is just a normal
house, nothing special, which may connote
that Loyle Carner is just a normal person
and wants to be treated that way. The sky is
quite cloudy which could connote the music
video has a muted atmosphere.

Close up - In this close up shot we get

shown Loyle Carner as a older man
wearing sliders and nike socks. Him being
an old man and still wearing younger
generation clothing trends may connote the
fact that even though he ages, he is still
young at heart.

Long shot - In the background of this shot,

there is a sunset behind the grey clouds.
This may of been used to connote that
although people expect being old to be
grey, sad and boring but despite what
people think it is quite exciting and is quite
pleasurable.

Close up - I picked out this shot because it

allows the audience to look at his facial
expressions which may give them a better
idea on how he feels. You can clearly see
that he feels very strongly about what he is
saying which may connote that the song he
is singing is close to his heart which may
also show that he can relate to the song on
a personal level.

Long shot - In this shot we can see Loyle

Carner sat in an everyday setting. This may
of been used to connote the fact that
although he is a popular artist, he still lives
a normal life. It might also connote a
warmer sense of his routes and a deeper
sense of his personal life showing a
connection with his audience and fans.

Mid shot - In this shot we can see Loyle

and his friend drinking beer. This may of
been used to suggest to the audience that
despite people thinking that being old
means that you cant do much, like going
out and having a drink, but despite what
they think you can. The chorus lyrics are
aint nothing changed which could be used
to connote that really nothing changed
when you get older.

Long shot - In the background, you can

clearly see that there is urban art on the
brick wall, this differentiates from their
seemingly old personas. The fact that there
is no one else in the shot may suggest that
they are out quite late which may of been
used to connote the fact that they are
defying the current stereotype of old people
being monotonous.

Mid shot - In this shot you can clearly see

that both men are playing video-games.
His facial expressions help to connote how
he is enjoying himself and shows a
competitive nature contrasting from the
often laid back personalities of elderly
people.

Low angle shot - In this shot, we get

shown the two old men sleeping on a sofa
and the other on a bunch of pillows.
Although elderly people are stereotypical
show as fragile and frail, this shot shows
that perhaps they arent as fragile as people
think they are if they are sleeping on
sofas/pillows which could of been used to
connote that the elderly people are fussy.

I liked this video as the counter typical representation of the older generation makes being
old look more fun and glamourous then people may think it is. I liked the way they kept their
editing slow and steady instead of making it quick as it made the video seem very relaxing
and match the genre of the song. I also like the lighting in all the shots as it isnt too bring
which carries on the relaxing theme of the music video and the song.
