2. What mode is a minor scale with a raised 6? ___Dorian___________
3. What mode is a major scale with a raised 4? ___Lydian___________
4. What mode is a minor scale (with no alterations)? ___Aeolian___________
5. What mode is a minor scale with a lowered 2? ___Phrygian___________
6. What mode is a major scale (with no alterations)? ____Ionian__________
7. What mode is a minor scale with a lowered 2 and 5? ___Locrian___________

Part 2: Identifying Modes my Notes

1. Dorian
2. Mixolydian
3. Ionian (Just a plain old G major scale!)
4. Tricky one! For this one, you could either analyize the intervals, or see if you
can rotate it down to a different tonic. Try treating B as the tonic, and you
will end up with a major scale. E is the tonic of our scale, and since E is 4 scale
degrees above B, then the answer must be the 4th mode. Lydian.
5. Again, you have to think through this one. You could rotate it to find a major
scale, or count the intervals. OR you could spot right away that it has a half
step at the beginning, and that will tell you it is either Phrygian or Locrian. If
it was Locrian, it would have to also have a flat 5 (a G-flat). Since it doesnt,
you can tell that it is Phrygian.
6. Looking at this one, I would see that it has 2 sharps, and the key signature for
2 sharps is D major. Our tonic in this scale is E, which is the second scale
degree of E major. So it must be the second mode Dorian.

easy, keep going! It will get harder soon!
