Slewing ring

Slewing ring
Facts

Forged (seamless) or made from bars

with a welded joint
Typical material:
42CrMo CMC:02.2
HB 260-330

1 ring to rotate the nacelle

3 rings to adjust the rotor blades
Example of size:
Dia: 2000 6000 mm
Thickness: 100 - 250 mm
Gear modules, M12 - M22

Turning - roughing

The entering angle of the tool affects

the chip formation. At an entering
angle of 90, the chip thickness is the
same as the feed, fn
A smaller angle, 75 - 45, will
reduce chip thickness and enable an
increase in feed, fn

Performance of wiper inserts

Wiper inserts are capable of turning at high feed rates -
without losing the capability for generating good surface
finishes or chip breaking ability.

Wiper inserts are used primarily for longitudinal

and face turning
Designed to smooth the surface generated as the insert is
fed along a workpiece, the wiper effect is primarily
designed for straight-line turning and facing.

Grooving

Roughing of ball track surfaces with trochoidal

turning
Description of trochoidal turning:
Roughing method with round inserts
Stepwise programmed tool path, which the tool follows back
& forward

Advantages with trochoidal turning:

Low cutting pressure
No vibrations
No chipping
Slewing ring
Profiling with round inserts

Recommended entering angle and arc of

engagement of the insert is 45.
Entering angle > 60 creates excessive cutting
forces and wrap around causing:
vibration
unpredictable performance

Feed reduction around radii

Feed is for the programmed radius and not for the

component radius.

If G1 = G2 the periphery feed increases around

the radius.
G2 needs to be reduced to maintain same
periphery feed.
