Lesson Title

The Human Body Systems

Audience
7th Grade, Atlanta Public Charter School International Baccalaureate Program

Lesson Overview
In this lesson students will learn about the major body systems and the organs that
make up each system. Students will explore how systems work together to keep us
alive and carry out daily functions such as breathing, eating, walking, running, and
removing waste from the body. Students already have prior knowledge of cells, tissue,
and organs. This lesson will consist of two online modules that will last for two weeks.

Objective
Students will be able to explain the major organ systems and their purpose in the
human body

Georgia Performance Standards

S7L2 Students will describe the structure and function of cells, tissue, organs, and
organ systems.

C: Explain that cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into
systems, and systems into organisms.

D: Explain that tissues, organs, and organ systems serve the needs cell have for
oxygen, food, and waste removal.

E: Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body (i.e.,
digestion, respiration, reproduction, circulation, excretion, movement, control,
and coordination, and for the protection from disease.

Module Design
There are several factors one should consider when building an effective online
classroom. The factors I focused on were development and scaffolding. While
developing online lessons it is very important to make sure directions are easy to
understand, hyperlinks works, documents are assessable, and the content being
presented should be of great quality. Online courses Ive taken where the instructor has
developed modules that are clear in directions and high in quality lead to a higher rate
of confidence in students and overall performance because norms have been set and
expectations are clear. The next factor that is also very important is scaffolding. By
organizing and chunking information into smaller sections it helps to not overload the
student and instructor. It makes it clear to the learner what they should be focused on.

Interactivity and Collaboration

Students will collaborate throughout the modules through blog posts and by sharing and
commenting on others work. Students will be required to write and comment on blog
posts for two weeks. This interactivity will allow students to learn from each other and
for the instructor to make sure students understood the content and that they are
keeping up with the modules. Students will create wanted posters for organs as well as
write persuasive letters about why the body should not fire the organ they choose.
These assignments are to be posted to the students blogs and they must read and
comment on other students blog posts.

Uses of Technology
Students will need access to the Internet and a mobile device in order to participate in
this two week module. The instructor will make use of various forms of technology such
as Prezi, YouTube, Blogs, Weebly, Quiz makers, and Electronic Worksheets. Students
can use various forms of technology for constructing wanted posters. Examples of
things students may use include Photoshop, Clipart, and Microsoft Word.
