Changing Over Time

Human life, is a long journey of collecting each memory book for material

enrichment , to nourish the soul, to satisfy the hunger , feel the world around
,
improve oneself . At the end, we are proud to think that we have lived

a life not tasteless. The epic poem Odyssey by Homer is about the king

of Ithaca name Odysseus, he had to leave his family at home and went

to the Trojans war for ten years and tried to get home for ten more

years. The speaker from the poem The journey by Mary Oliver doesn't

want to go to the journey because of the voices but then she left the

voices behind and keep going on her journey and doesn't stop. The

Journey is talking about .

In the text Odysseus the first part of the story

the author states that But in my heart i never gave consent

(Odysseus-23). This quote means that when he begins his journey hell

only have Penelope in his heart to show that he is a loyal person. He

does the complete opposite and stays at Calypso's place related to the

idea because he couldn't resist the temptation . But he change his

thinking at the end he think about his wife his son that why he does

not care about the other woman .

In the poem The Journey the speaker changes from being attacked by

others voices and ideas to showing self confidence . For example , the narrator

says, And there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own,

that kept you company ( Oliver 28-31 ). This shows how she got to be

self-reliant when she stopped listening to other people and began to listen to

herself . This is important because this change helps she be a better person

and how she can be confident to herself . Furthermore , we can see how the

speaker also changed from scared of the peoples ideas to escaping from them.

She says But little by little as you left their voices behind ( Oliver 24-25 ) .

this quotes is mean that she started changing and not listening to other people

anymore . This is important because she is becoming her own person can be

more confident because the journey has ended and helped she realize that

listen to people is the worse. These changes make the character a better

person by believing in herself and having self confidence and trust.

In conclusion, a major theme in life is that people can change: sometimes for

the better or some for the worse. In the story Odyssey . Odysseus changed by
becoming more humble because he was selfish and did not get to see his

family and homeland Ithaca for 20 years. Also in the text The Journey , the

narrator get changed to be more confident because she get attacked by what

people said . throughout both the story The Odyssey and the text The Journey

we can tell that journey will help people learn how to live. The Journey

important because if people do not go out to see and to learn how people

living in this complicated life then they will not change , get more humble and

more confident to live.
