Introduction

D
elhi University conducts Joint Admission Test (DU JAT) in the third week of June.
The exam is conducted by University of Delhi for admissions to 6 colleges which
offer Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) Course. The application process of
DU JAT starts from the second week of May and ends on the fourth week of May or fourth
week of June. The 6 colleges that offer BMS admissions via DU JAT scores are Deen Dayal
Upadhyaya College, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Keshav Mahavidyalaya,
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College and
Ramanujan College.

Apart from BMS, the DU JAT exam scores are also accepted for programmes like B.A
(Hons) Business Economics and BBA in Financial Investment Analysis [BBA (FIA)]. As
many as 10 colleges offer B.A. in Business Economics and Shaheed Sukhdev College of
Business Studies offer BBA (FIA) programme.

DU JAT Eligibility: Candidates who have passed the senior secondary examination from

1. The candidate must have passed in Senior Secondary School Examination of
CBSE or any other examination considered equivalent by the University of Delhi. Final

2. The minimum percentage for General/OBC category students are 60%, for SC/
ST is 50%, and CW/PWD is 54%

3. The eligibility criteria may vary for each college

DU JAT Application Form: Eligible aspirants can fill the application form online within
the stipulated schedule. The application fee is Rs. 500 for General and OBC category, and
Rs.250 for SC/ST/PWD.
DU JAT Exam Pattern: The test is objective in nature with 100 multiple choice objective
type questions to be answered by the students. The duration of the test is 2 hours and the
total marks are 300. The test is divided into four sections, namely Quantitative Ability,
Reasoning & Analytical Ability, General English, and Business & General Awareness. As
per the marking scheme, each correct question will have 3 marks and there will be a negative
marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer.

DU JAT Admit Card: The Admit card for DU JAT is available online for the registered
candidates from the first week of June onwards. Candidates have to login to the official
website to download it. The Admit Card shall have the Candidates Name, Roll Number,
Photo, Signature, Examination Venue and Date.
DU JAT Result: The results are announced in the form of merit list in the first week of
July. The final selection will be based on the overall score obtained in DU JAT entrance
test and personal interview.
DU JAT Selection Procedure: The selection procedure of DU JAT 2016 is based on 2
factors: performance in the entrance exam and merit. Each factor will be given 50% weight-
age. The final selection is based on counselling process. Some of the participating colleges
conduct separate Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds as well.

DU JAT Eligibility Criteria

A
ccording to the DU JAT Eligibility Criteria, students who have passed higher
secondary from a recognized board with a minimum of 60% marks (best four) are
eligible to apply. The University of Delhi conducts the Joint Admission Test (DU
JAT) for the admission in Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), B.A (Hons.) in Busi-
ness Economics and BBA (FIA) programmes.

As per the officials, the eligibility criteria are listed below.

DU JAT 2016 Eligibility Criteria- Official:

1. The candidate should have passed or have appeared in March/April 2016 Senior Second-
ary School Examination of CBSE or any other examination considered equivalent by
the University of Delhi.

2. The General Category candidate should have an aggregate of at least 60% (class XII) in
four papers including English, Mathematics and other two subjects from the list of elec-
tive subjects as approved by the University of Delhi. Minimum percentage of marks for
SC, ST, CW and PwD categories is 55%). Other conditions are same as for the General
Category.

3. The candidate should have obtained pass marks in each of the four papers considered for
computing the aggregate.

4. The candidate must produce the confirmed result and marksheet of the qualifying
examination on the day of the Group Discussion and Personal Interview to be eligible
for admission in BMS/BBA (FIA)/ B.A (Hons.) Business Economics programs. The
candidates who do not have confirmed marksheet will not be entertained under any
circumstances.

5. The category certificate (OBC-non creamy layer/SC/ST/PwD/CW), in the name of the

candidate, must be produced on the day of the interview and group discussion.

6. The candidates with Compartment in the current year will not be considered for admis-
sion.

7. The candidates who have appeared for improvement in the class XII examination of 2016
shall not be considered for admission in the current year.

nomics course(s) against the prescribed quota of seats earmarked for them shall have to

DU JAT Application Form

D
elhi University conducts the application process for the DU JAT exam in the second
week of May onwards till the end of the month. Candidates who are considered
eligible by the University need to fill in the application form by registering online
for the test. Candidates can read here details in this article to know about the DU JAT

The application process is completely online. Students need to pay the application fee
online as well through Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking. Students who are eligible must
only apply for the test before the deadline.

Before starting with the process, first, lets have a look at the requirements for the applica-
tion process.

Instructions for candidates to fill the form:

1. Create a Login ID and Password to access the online form for BMS. Use this Login ID
and Password is to access all the information related to BMS, and filling the application
form
2. After you fill the form completely, you must make payment via Debit/Credit card. The
application is considered submitted, only on the payment of requisite fee.
3. The prescribed application fee for General/OBC/CW category is Rs. 500 and for SC/
ST/PwD Category is Rs. 250.
4. In case an applicant is unable to complete the entire process of filling the application
form in first attempt, s/he can choose Save and Logout option. The same form may later
be retrieved using the candidates Login ID and Password for the purpose of editing and
making payment. However, once the payment is made, no further updating/editing is
admissible.
5. After filling the fee, an acknowledgement slip will be generated, which will have trans-
action details. The applicants must take a print out of the slip and keep it safe till the
admission process is over.
6. BMS 2016 entrance examination will be mailed to the candidate. The candidate is
required to check his/her e-mail account (inbox, spam/junk folders). Only registered
students will receive their admit card.

2. Reasoning and Analytical Ability: Questions will be from direction and distance test,

DU JAT Admit Card

T
he Admit Card of DU JAT is available only for the registered candidates. The DU
JAT 2016 Admit Card will be sent by the officials via mail, most likely in the first
week of June 2016. The University will also release the admit card on the official
website for the candidates to download.

The Admit Card is an important document for the students who have to appear in the
exam, also known as Delhi University Joint Admission Test (DU JAT). Candidates will be
required to furnish the admit card or the hall ticket, at the test centers. Students will not
be allowed to appear in the exam if they fail to produce the Admit Card at the test venue.

The Admit Card will have the following details:

1. Candidate name
2. Photo and Signature
3. Roll number of the candidate
4. Venue, date and time of the exam
5. Other exam instructions

The Admit Card must be preserved after the test is over, as it will be required at the time of
counselling. Candidates can also download from the University of Delhi website by entering

DU JAT Answer Key

T
he Answer Key of DU JAT will be available after the test is over, most likely in
the first week of July. The Answer Key will let the candidates match their answer
options so as to know the accuracy level as well as the estimated score and eventu-
ally the admission chance at the institutes which conduct their admission through the DU
JAT exam.

The Answer Key will be released by the official exam conducting body - University of
Delhi, for admissions to bachelors programme in management.

DU JAT Result

T
he Result of DU JAT is announced in the first week of July. The exam is conducted
in the third week of June. DU JAT 2016 is conducted for admission to BMS, B.A
(Hons.) in Business Economics and BBA (FIA) programms, affiliated to University
of Delhi. The test is conducted on the third week of June in a paper-pencil based format.
The result is announced in the form of score card, revealing the sectional and overall scores
along with the ranks.

DU JAT Cutoff

D
U JAT or Delhi University Joint Admission Test for the admission in BMS/BBA
(FIA)/BA (H) Business Economics is held in the second week of June. The candi-
dates will be shortlisted for the selection procedure on the basis of the DU JAT Cut-
off. The shortlist for GD-PI is announced in the fourth week of June and the final result is
announced in the first week of July 3. The category wise Cutoff of DU JAT been announced.

For DU JAT, the cutoff will be given in rank. The following table brings to you the cutoff

DU JAT Selection Procedure

T
he Selection Procedure of DU JAT is a two-step process for admissions to the Bach-
elors of Management Studies (BMS) and BBA-Finance in the colleges affiliated to
University of Delhi (DU). Candidates who appeared in the test can check all the
details regarding the DU JAT Selection Procedure in this article.

DU JAT Selection Procedure follows the below-given steps:

l DU JAT - appear in the test in the scheduled date and time
l Appear in Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds
l Final admission will be based on the performance in the test and the selection rounds
and performance in class XII
l Based on the performance in the written test, candidates approximately four to six
times the number of seats for the relevant categories for each course i.e. BMS and BBA
(FIA) will be called for group discussion and interview.

Final Selection will be made for all categories on the basis of the weights
provided below:
a. 85% for the Entrance test
b. 15% for the GD and Interview

DU JAT exam day strategy and last

minute preparation tips

A
pproximately 25,000 candidates register and appear for the DU JAT exam every
year. To help you take the DU JAT exam with a better and well prepared state of
mind, we bring to you the last minute preparation tips and the instructions for the
exam day.

Instructions for the D Day

Following pointers must be noted by the test takers before going for the exam.
l Dont forget the Admit Card Your DU JAT Admit Card is the mandatory document

for the exam. If you have not received the admit card yet via email, you can also
download it from the DU website as and when it is available. In case of any discrepancy,
immediately write or visit the university/college within the given schedule.
l Reach the exam centre on time According to the exam conducting body, you must

enter the test centre at least an hour prior to the exam timing. No candidate will be
allowed to enter after the stipulated time, which is mentioned in the admit card.
l Check again for the correct test centre You will not be allowed to take the test in

any other test centre apart from the one mentioned in your Admit Card. Confirm the
address by visiting the centre a day in advance to gauge the estimated time to reach the
exam venue and the directions to follow.
l Carry the necessary stationary items The OMR sheets have to be filled by blue/

back ball point pen only. Hence, carry the necessary stationary items which you would
require during the test. Arrange the required items properly so that you do not have to
seek for help inside the test hall either from the invigilators or your fellow test takers.

l Items not to be carried in the test centre You would not be allowed to carry electronic
computing devices such as calculators, mobile phones, stray pieces of paper, books, notebooks
to name a few.
l Read the instructions of your test booklet 10 minutes before the test, you will be allowed to
take out the Answer Sheet without breaking the seal. Read the instructions carefully and fill the
information on the Test-Booklet and Answer-Sheet as per that.
l Check for uniformity in your Answer Sheet and Test Booklet Make sure that the Serial
Number of your Answer Sheet matches that of your Test Booklet. In case of discrepancy, request
the test invigilator to replace the Test Booklet and Answer Sheet with a new set. Also check for
the Series Number in your Test Booklet. The Series Number must be the same in every page of
the booklet. In case of discrepancy, inform the invigilator so that he/she can replace it. Moreover,
ensure that there are 100 questions in the paper.
l Mark your attendance Dont forget to mark your attendance at the exam hall. Show your
Admit Card to the invigilator. Write your Test-Booklet Serial Number, Test-Booklet Series
Number and mark your attendance and left hand thumb impression on the Attendance Sheet.
Make sure that the invigilator signs both your Test-Booklet and Answer-Sheet.
l Note the marking scheme For each correct answer, 3 marks will be awarded and for each
wrong answer, 1 mark would be deducted. Un-attempted questions will be given zero marks.
Hence be absolutely sure about the accuracy of the answer in order to avoid losing marks through
negative marking.
l Darken only one box The exam pattern of DU JAT includes multiple choice objective
type questions. You have to choose the right answer and darken the corresponding option box
uniformly with your blue/black pen. Do not darken more than one box as in that case, your
answer will be treated as wrong and 1 mark will be deducted.
l Do the rough work in the space provided You have to do the rough work in the space provided
in the Test Booklet. Do not do any rough work on the Answer Booklet. Also, be careful of not
putting any mark on the Answer Booklet apart from darkening the boxes.
l Do not leave the test hall before schedule You would not be allowed to leave the test centre
unless the invigilator allows you to. Even if you complete your exam prior to the schedule,
utilize the time in revising the answers and ensure that your admit card has been signed by the
invigilator.

General Awareness: This section has majority of questions from Current GK. Questions
are mainly asked from Economics and Business Awareness. A couple of questions from
Polity, Books and Authors etc. are also asked.

General English: This section is dominated by Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning: This section is a good mix of questions from Logical
and Mathematical Reasoning. Questions are asked from Deductive Logic, Statement
Assumptions, Analogy, Visual Reasoning, Series, Data Interpretation and Arrangements.

Quantitative Aptitude: This section is dominated by Higher Math. Questions are also
asked from the areas like Number System, Arithmetic, Permutations and Combinations,
Algebra, Geometry and Probability.

According to Puri, Analytical & Logical Reasoning and General English are compara-
tively easy in this exam, so the test takers should try to make their maximum their score
in these two sections. It is to be noted that questions from Higher Math are asked only
in this entrance exam for BBA. Hence, a student, who is confident of his/her preparation
in the remaining topics, may choose not to prepare for Higher Math if he is not particular

DU JAT Year Wise Analysis

I
n this section of the E-book, we present to you the detailed year wise analysis of the DU
JAT exam from the year 2013 onwards.

DU BMS CET 2013 Analysis

In the year 2013, the exam was named DU BMS Common Entrance Test or DU BMS CET
which was conducted by FMS, University of Delhi on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. The exam
had 4 sections, General Awareness, General English, Analytical & Logical Reasoning and
Quantitative Aptitude. Each section had 25 questions hence the total number of questions
was 100. Each question carried 3 marks. Hence the total mark of the paper was 300. There
was negative marking of 1 mark.

The overall difficulty level of the exam can be termed as easy to moderate. Let us have a
look at the detailed section wise analysis.

General Awareness
This section had mixed questions from current affairs and static GK. The current affairs
questions were on business awareness and economics. The static GK questions were on
Polity, Books and Authors etc. The difficulty level of this section was moderate.

General English
This section is a mix of Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary. There were 2 Reading
Comprehension passages which had 10 questions. The questions were direct and easy to
answer. The questions on Vocabulary were of moderate difficulty level. Questions on Fill in
the Blanks and Spelling were also asked. Overall, this section can be rated as Easy to Mod-
erate. The Reading Comprehension part was easy and the Vocabulary part was moderate.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning

This section was of easy difficulty level. The questions appeared from Logical and Math-
ematical Reasoning areas. The topics from which most of the questions were asked were
Deductive Logic, Statement Assumptions, Analogy, Visual Reasoning, Series, Data Inter-
pretation and Arrangements.

Quantitative Aptitude
The difficulty level of this section can be considered as easy to moderate. Majority ques-
tions were from Higher Math. The other questions were on Number System, Arithmetic,

DU BMS CET 2014 section wise analysis -

GA and Quant on tougher side

T
he DU BMS CET 2014 was conducted by Faculty of Management Studies; Univer-
sity of Delhi was conducted on Thursday, June 26, 2014. It is the entrance exam for
the admission in the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) programme offered
by 6 colleges of Delhi University and has 840 seats. In the detailed analysis of DU BMS
CET 2014 analysis by Career Launcher, we would share the in depth section wise analysis.

According to Career Launcher, the overall difficulty level of the exam was moderate to
difficult. However, most of the questions were doable. The exam followed similar pattern
of last year. The following table will give you the paper structure and the section wise dif-
ficulty level.

General Awareness
Majority of the questions were from Static GK and few were from Current Affairs. From
the Static GK questions, 14 were on brands and companies and few were on musicians,
magazines, chemistry etc. Current affairs questions were on world politics and business.
The difficulty level of this section is considered to be difficult.

General English
The difficulty level of this section is moderate. There were 2 Reading Comprehension pas-
sages and the rest of the questions were based on vocabulary. The questions could be tough
for candidates with weak vocabulary. There was 1 Reading Comprehension passage of
around 1000 words followed by 5 questions. This was a change from last year, where there
were 2 RC passages of approximately 400 words each. The difficulty level of the passage
was moderate. The questions were direct in nature. Vocabulary questions on synonyms,
antonyms and idioms were tough.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

Majority of the questions in this section were from Data Interpretation, Arrangement
and Comparisons. Few questions were on puzzles, series and blood relations. A particular
question was tough in nature. There were no questions on Verbal Reasoning. This section
was easiest compared to others. The other topics included Letter Arrangement, Tables, Bar
Graph, Meaningful Word among others.

Quantitative Aptitude
The difficulty level of this section was moderate. Majority of the questions were in Higher
Math. Other areas included Set theory, Relations and Functions, Calculus, Co-ordinate
geometry, Vectors, Complex Number, Determinants, Statistics, Probability. Permutation
Combination, Average, Equation etc

DU JAT 2015 Analysis

T
he DU JAT exam was conducted by the University of Delhi for the admission in
BMS, BBA (FIA) and BA (H) Business Economics courses on 14th June 2015. As
a new move, the Delhi University has mandated Mathematics in Higher Secondary
as an eligibility criterion. A total of 120 questions were to be attempted in the stipulated
time period of 2 hours. Each question carried three marks and there was a negative mark-
ing of one mark for each incorrect answer. There were broadly four sections of the paper,
wiz General Awareness, General English, Analytical & Logical Reasoning and Quantitative
Aptitude with almost 30 questions belonging to each section. Overall, the level of the paper
ranged from moderate.

Quantitative Aptitude
The majority of questions, in this section, were based on Geometry, followed by Calculus and
Algebra. The section had a good mix of questions from areas like Set theory, Relations and
Functions, Calculus, Co-ordinate geometry, Time and Work, Modern Maths etc. The difficulty
level of these questions ranged from moderate to difficult. A score of around 59 64 could be
considered a good score while an attempt of 20+ can be considered a good attempt.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

A majority of questions in this section were based on Arrangement, Data Interpretation and
Series. A few questions were from Puzzles, Coding-Decoding, Syllogism and Directions.
Unlike last year, there were few questions based on Verbal Reasoning. This section was the
easiest of all and an attempt of 22-24 can be considered a good attempt. A score of 62-67 can
be considered a good score.

General English
Unlike last year, this year there were 2 Reading Comprehension passages of 5 questions each.
This was in line with the pattern that was used in 2013. The word limit of both the passages
was from 180200 words approximately. The passages were moderately difficult to read but all
the questions could have been easily answered after a careful reading of the relevant passage.
There were 9 questions based on Vocabulary, 7 questions based on Grammar and 4 questions
on Para Jumble. An attempt of 2022 can be considered a good attempt while a score of 5863
can be considered a good score.

Topper Interview with Vidit Jain, Rank 3

A
believer in the Mantra of Getting it done, Vidit Jain followed a simple strategy
and cracked the Delhi University Bachelors in Management Studies (DU BMS
CET) 2014 entrance exam with Rank 3. Vidit jain scored 84.33 out of 100 in BMS
entrance exam.

Vidit believes in the theory All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Thats why he
made sure to spend time in nurturing his hobbies like playing Table Tennis and reading
short stories. He believes that his aim to do something away from the league is what led
him to success.

In this interview with Careers360, Vidit Jain shares his simple yet important strategy to
crack the DU BMS CET 2014.

Careers360: Congratulations Vidit for scoring Rank 3 in DU BMS CET 2014.

Vidit Jain: Thank you so much. This was not at all expected and it really feels great to be
called as Rank 3 Topper. My family, friends, relatives are all very happy.

Careers360: Tell us about your overall and section wise score.

Vidit Jain: My Rank in DU BMS CET 2014 is 3 with total score of 84.33 out of 100.
Each section was of 75 marks, in Quantitative Ability I scored 71, Reasoning and Analyti-
cal Ability score was 67, General English was 52 and in Business and General Awareness
I secured 25.

Careers360: Thats a good score Vidit. Which section was easiest for you and which
you found was the toughest?
Vidit Jain: Well, the easiest for me was Logical Reasoning and the toughest was Business
and General Awareness. This part was more focused on Banking; the questions mostly were
related to banking sector and I found them a bit hard to answer.

Careers360: But you did score well overall, so tell us what was your preparation
strategy was for DU BMS CET 2014?
Vidit Jain: There was no strategy as such. I just studied subject and section wise. I didnt
schedule any specific hours for my preparations, my only aim was to revise what I have
studied at my coaching.

Careers360: How was your study plans at your Coaching Institute?

Vidit Jain: I did my BMS coaching from IMS Pitampura center. They helped a lot with
the preparations. We used to have three hour classes and each Sunday there was a test. The
Study booklet provided a lot of information.

Careers360: So, was it studies and no play for you? Were there any other recrea-
tional activities that you did along with your BMS CET preparation?
Vidit Jain: No it was definitely not entirely studies. I was very active in other activities
too, like reading short fiction stories and playing Table Tennis, which is my favourite sport.
It is not actually true that if you give time to recreational activities you will not be able to
crack any exam. Rather, extracurricular activities are equally important to make our mind
much more active into studies. And, this was my Mantra for DU BMS entrance prepara-
tions.

Careers360: That is surely a good strategy and thoughts you shared with us. So,
tell us Vidit what made you opt for Management course/ Does anyone in your family
inspires you?
Vidit Jain: My father is an engineer and no one in the family is into Business, but
Management studies have been my favourite since XI standard. I loved to read about the
managerial responsibilities, crisis management and overall business as a subject. So it was
my studies that inspired me to pursue my career in Management.

Careers360: Have you made any plans that would help you to have a prominent
career in this profession?
Vidit Jain: Yes I have a very short term planning as of now. I have taken admission into
Delhi University Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. After my graduation I will
surely pursue my Maters in Business Administration and would want to be a part of an
organization as a Manager.

Careers360: We hope you achieve your aspirations. In the end, is there any Prep
Tip or a message you would like to share with the future DU BMS CET aspirants?
Vidit Jain: I just have three simple guidelines for them; first, if they have joined a coach-
ing institute, they must attend all the classes timely. Second, reading newspaper must be
developed as a habit, and lastly never stop practicing
