Screw Feeder Description and Controls

The mingler screw feeder mainly consists of open vessel, buffer bin outlet,
rotating blades, hot water and affination syrup discharge, and the screw feeder
outlet.
The raw sugar is being discharged from the Raw Sugar Servo Balans after
weighing. The raw sugar flow can be controlled using the buffer bin valve
adjacent to the screw feeder. A low speed pump is used for the impeller. Its
electric current drawn can be monitored in the control panel. As the raw sugar
moves, the affination syrup flows through a long tube with holes enough to drip
and mix with the raw sugar. Gate valve serves as the flow control for the syrup
and also to control viscosity and the quality of the affination magma. Affination
magma moves through the screw feeder outlet to proceed to centrifugation
process.
In practice, the electric current drawn by the pump is one of the indicators
of the degrees Brix of the affination magma. Increased degree Brix of the
affination magma can lead to higher current and may result to tripping. In order
to maintain the performance of the pump, 85 degrees Brix must be maintained.
