Present Perfect Tense - English Grammar

Present Perfect

have/has + Past Participle (3rd form)

Use - Present Perfect

The Present Perfect tense: Something started in the past and continues
in the present.

Present Perfect examples:


I have finished my work.
He has talked to his brother.
We have worked in London since 2010.

-Present Perfect: Something has just happened.

He has just had an accident.


I have just finished my work.

-Present Perfect: Something happend in the past and is important for


the present.

Tom has los his keys. He can't start his car.

Present Perfect - Signal Words

Signalwords
are: already, ever, for, just, never, not...yet, recently, since, so
far, this morning (afternoon...), till now, up to now, yet.

Examples Present Perfect Signal words


I have just eaten oranges.
We have already done our homework.
He has lived in London since 2011.

Present Perfect Questions

'have/has' + Subject + Past Participle

Examples Present Perfect Questions:

I have eaten oranges. Have I eaten oranges?


We have already done our homework. Have we already done our homework?
He has lived in London since 2011. Has he lived in London since 2011?
Present Perfect negative

have/has + not + Past Participle

Examples Present Perfect Negative:

I have eaten oranges. I haven't eaten oranges.


He has lived in London since 2011. He hasn't lived in London since 2011.
