Drama Artistic Intention

On the stage of a drama theatre, actors perform to express their ideas by using different
techniques and ways to explore a new world throughout the theme. Their inspirations or ideas
comes from the problems they encounter and how do they overcome these difficulties that is
applicable to the performances. And everyone has a different life, different directions or has made
different decisions that becomes many stories in their lives. Throughout the devising piece, it is
fascinating to explore in depth in terms of the implications of figuring out how does family and
social pressure affect us and how does it relate to the unit inquiry question - Our lives are
expressed through stories.

The performance will be presented through multimedia and we aim to promote the idea of
how the social and family pressure relates to our stories and gives a negative impact on us. The
performance is assumed to be divided into three parts. The first two parts will be focused on the
family and school pressure and it will be the first half of the performance. This first half explains
the pressure from mostly family expectations and stress from academic mainly from peers. As for
the second half, which is the third part, it will be focused on the social pressure that explains the
issues in the society when most people think it is wrong but it is viewed in a different perspective
yourself. The motive of creating this work is to inform the parents and teachers the problems and
difficulties we encounter every day and our desire of free spirit and getting away from the pressure.

The performance will be stories of real life situations that happened on teenagers when they
encountered problems of social and family pressure. Through performing, the intention is
communicated to the audiences and it gives them a better understanding of how these difficulties
give a negative impact to the teenagers in physical or psychological aspects when they are in the
process of thinking development. There will be three characters in the play. The main character will
be Muna, acting as a student and a daughter and the others will be Benson and Stanley, playing
other major roles that influences the main character and her decisions in the story.

Before the performance, some research is done beforehand in order to get a deeper
understanding on the physical and psychological impacts of the how pressure can affect the
development of children and teenagers. The inspiration of the stories in the performances are real
experiences from the team members. We hope to succeed in bringing the message to our audience,
through informing the issue we can create a successful drama production even though only
secondary students. We think that we could achieve success as soon as we can cooperate and
communicate well with our team members and the audiences off-stage. Our audiences in the drama
production will be the Y9 students and teachers, since this relates to what we have learnt in the first
term for the whole unit, we hope to bring a good impression to the audiences by using real stories
and make them realistic. This effect is created based on the combination of all the skills learnt about
body movements.

Overall, we hope to involve and combine daily issues into our performance, let the
audiences have a good and memorable impression on how we turn something very general into a
special piece of artwork. This will be a challenge to our group and also to the audiences as we let
them understand our message and what we aim to change through the communication with
audiences.
