5. What actions, if any, would you take if you were Thomas Green?

Thomas Green should first reflect on the mistakes committed by him in the past. He should respond
to Shannon's email and request for a face-to-face meeting with her. He should acknowledge the
concerns of his boss Frank Davis and should be calm during the meeting and re-express his
commitment towards the company. He should also assure Shannon that he will look into the
concerns raised by Davis and he will make sure that he does not repeat them. He can also present
his case before Shannon. Green should come to the meeting prepared to show what he has
accomplished since his promotion. He also has a chance to show that he still has the same hunger
and passion towards his work. Things would be better off, if Thomas follows a path of
reconciliation with boss. Since Thomas did not have any experience as a manager, he should seek
guidance from some of the more seasoned managers in the company to brush up his managerial
skills. He should learn to keep his boss informed about his plans and always respond promptly to
any questions asked by his boss. Rather than trying to work in a completely autonomous manner.
He should try to work under the mentorship of his boss Davis and in a more collaborative manner
and should be more receptive to feedback. There cannot be two power centers and he would have
to accept the fact that he is subordinate. He cannot change his boss so it would be better if he could
align himself towards achieving a common goal. In addition, it would be better if rather than
questioning the authority of his boss publicly and having a tumultuous relationship; he should
work on building a more positive and relation with Davis. He should demonstrate a more positive
attitude towards both his boss and his work. As pointed out by one of the market specialists,
although Thomas is great when it comes to selling his ideas to the clients, but since he is unable to
provide hard data to back up his claims. He should learn to be more familiar with presentations
and memos as this is what his clients as well as his seniors require. In fact, as we can infer that
since there is some politics at play in Thomass office, he should try to leverage the good
relationship he has with Shannon, whenever required.
