The Father of Sevatirth Shree Purushottam Panchal

Shri purushottam J. Panchal being Mechanical, Electrical Engineer has worked

in Engineering companies for 35 yrs and simultaneously has been doing
Voluntary Social Services in the field of Leprosy & Disability after job hours and
on holidays since 1969 to 1998 and then after full time till date.

The two organizations functioning for Leprosy & Disability were established in
1979 to 1981 respectively.

In 1991 an Integrated Self Employment Training Centre "Sevatirth" located at

Tarsali bypass at Vadodara was started on the land given by Govt. of Gujarat.

47 State/ National / International Awards to organizations, beneficiaries are

mainly because of his efforts.

Shri Purushottam Panchal has Voluntary worked as Honorary Secretary of

"Gujarat Raktappit Nivaran Seva Sangh" & "Society for the Training &
Vocational Rehabilitation of the Disabled" since beginning for 25 yrs and as
President since ten years.

Devoting hours as Trustee of Asmita Vikas Kendra Tralsa, Dist. Bharuch having
established Mobile treatment unit in villages and a school for Mentally illed
Children.

He is working as Chairman, National Programmes for Leprosy Elimination

(NLEP) & Community based Rehabilitation (CBR) for seven states having more
PR of Leprosy of our nation.
 He has been able to succeed in settling 900 Leprosy affected and 2300 persons
with disability of all categorized with empowering them to maintain their families
to live with DIGNITY in main stream; and this is his dream for all such persons.

in 1997 mother is also expired in 2005. I have 3 sons; all got married & they are settled
in Vadodara city itself. I have 1(one) sister settled in Vadodara through whom it happened
to start working in the field of Leprosy because of my brother in law was working as
compounder at Ansuya Leprosy Hospital; Ansuya & then at Vadodara Govt. of Gujarat.
After all three sons started earning I left my job by end of November, 1998 & working fully
voluntary with "Gujarat Raktappit Nivaran Seva Sangh' & 'Society for the Training and
Vocational Rehabilitation of the Disabled' as Hon. Sec for 27 Years and then after since
nine years as president of both organizations.

that they can live with self-confidence with DIGITY.
To develop supportive attitude towards them with total awareness amongst
society through counseling, seminars etc with correct understanding

Different types of activities/services provide by Sevatirth:

1. Health Related activities

To identify and register disabled person and provide them treatment, aids and
appliances, education training and self-employment/employment
Weekly consultation of the mentally challenged persons to mental hospital,
Vadodara residing SEVATIRTH.
Other medical facilities are given regularly through visiting doctor weekly at
SEVATIRTH.
For further treatment patient is referred to private/ government hospitals and
diagnosed for further treatment and needed medicines are purchased and given
in addition to treatment from SEVATIRT clinic.
Physiotherapy treatment is given to disabled patient in the JAGRUTI (of Honsiw
U.K.) physiotherapy clinic at sevatirth by expert physiotherapists.
Also post operative physiotherapy treatment is given to poor disabled patient at
their home by Mobile physiotherapy unit.

2. Education Related activities

Our organization provides total education support hostel facilities from primary,
secondary, college and ITI level education and training to PWDs at sevatirth as
well at their homes in cities/ villages.

3. Activities for disabled children

Our organization provides education, health care support to PWDs.

Different cultural programs like Music competition, Drama, Mehndi, Rangoli
competition sports competition are regularly being organized at sevatirth to
motivate them.
Children from sevatirth participate in city, state and national level-games and win
medals/ prizes and so.
4. Women related activities

Women are trained-for home products/ comodities such as candle, Doormat,

incense sticks, washing powder, phenyl etc school article as- white chalk, note
books, registers etc. office articles such files, registers.etc to make them self
sufficient- with Self- employment.
They are also Motivated to participate in the Rangoli drawings, Mehndi
competitions, singing competition etc.

5. Training for self employment

Sevatirth runs government recognized I.T.I with four trades of computer, book
binding, cutting tailoring and needle work and electrical relay assembly fitting in
collaboration with ABB Company, where PWDs are trained and-employed to earn
bread and butter for their family.
Computer training programs and Braille education- given to blind people at
sevatirth.

6. Old Age home related activities

Old age LAPS people live in the sevatirth old age home and we take care for
their total health, food and clothes.
They regularly do pray and bhajans in shiv temple at sevatirth within campus.

7. Library facility

More than 300 books of all kinds are available in the library which is regularly read
by old age people and PWDs.

8. Sports related activities

Regular sports related activities are arranged in the sevatirth to motivate PWDs
to participate in sports.
 PWDs participate regularly in the state, national and international level sports
They have won 33 national/ international/ state award, more than 200 medals,
and sports certificate in the sports competition.
A sports complex exclusively for all categorized disabled is planned at sevatirth
within campus.

9. Community Based Rehabilitation

All PWDs are trained and educated to make them self-employed and self-
dependent. We help them in live in society with self-respect and dignity.
Till more than 300 PWDs are settled and amongst them 2 are awarded with awards
and puraskars etc.

10. Health education programs

We regularly organize skin camp, eye camp, polio detection and operation
camps in the villages and slum areas wrong concept

11. Religious activity

We celebrate national aid religious festival such as Holi, Rakshabandhan, Bhaibij

and independence and republic day with the PWDs at sevatirth campus.

12. World disability day celebration

We conduct introduction meetings to identify and recognize life partner and

marriage mela regularly for PWDs.

13. Others

Institute also organized children's day, world women day etc. every year.
It also distributes clothes, grains, aid appliances, medicines etc to the needed
disabled persons regularly into community also.
Disabled persons go for outside visit at religious places etc.
"Pankh" training for 100% job opportunity collaboration with "Pankh" Bangalore at
Sevatirth.

Activities of Organizations

Mansik Aswasha Bhagini Mandir

Since 1997 we are running " Mansik Aswasha Bhagini Mandir" recognized by
social defense dept govt. of Gujarat a home for Mentally challenged women started
with such 3 such women and at present 58 such women staying in our
organization at sevatirth. We provide health care, training and rehabilitation of such
women.
Viklang Kalyan Pravrutti
With support from Government of Gujarat through social defense department, We
started "Viklang kalyan Pravrutti" with upper limit of 35 disabled . we take care
of their health,
Mansik Aswastha Bhrata mandir
Since 2001 we are running "Mansik Aswastha Bhrata mandir" with out govt.
grant for mentally challenged men. We take care with treatment, training &
education. At present there are 24. Such men staying at our organization
"Sevatirth" and about 50 such gents got cured and have gone to their
family/Society.
Viklang Vadil Vihar Vatika (Home for aged disabled)
Since 2003 we are running "Viklang Vadil vihar vatika" for aged disabled. We
take complete care of them including their health, food and welfare treatment
etc., at present there are 30 such aged disabled men and women stay in separate
hostel/home this home at "Sevatirth"
Swadhar shelter home for disabled women
We started "Swadhar Shelter home" for disabled women since 2005 with the
support of govt of India, women & child development dept with in the upper limit of
50. We provide shelter to mentally retarded, physically challenged and leprosy
cured women and we provide health care, treatment, training in different trades to
rehabilitate them to provide them to live respectful life in society . At present there
are 65 women staying in our shelter home. About 153 women are
rehabilitated and have stared living their with society.
 Viklang Kumar Chhartralay (Hostel for Disabled Boys)
Since 1995 all categorized disabled kids of leprosy affected normal students
staying at "sevatirth" hostel. They go to school, colleges, taking training in a
I.T.I. at sevatirth, ABB training center, as well as PANKH training center at
sevatirth. At present there are 44 such students staying at Sevatirth" Viklang
kumar Chhatralaya" Hostel facility for working men are also available.
Viklang Kanya Chhartralay (Hostel for Disabled Girls)
Since 2003 all categorized disabled girls, daughter of leprosy affected and normal
and orphan girls are staying at "sevatirth" girls hostel and go to nearby school,
colleges. I.T.I. at Sevatirth also in ABB training center as well as PANKH training
center at sevatirth. At present there are 27 such students (Girls) staying at
Sevatirth Viklang kanya Chhatralaya. Hotel facility for working women are also
available.
