1. Introduction
2. Site Conditions
a) Site location -
As per tender doc, section IV, Technical specs, subsection 9, 1 circular well
intake system with min inside dia of 18 m. The well shall be constructed at
well location 3 (2898311 N, 377083.5 E) as per IIT Roorkee
recommendations (for minimum sedimentation and scour point of view) and
soil report proposal. Scour level is 16.54 m below bed level.
JWIL-RANHILL JV
b) Soil profile -
JWIL-RANHILL JV
JWIL-RANHILL JV
c) Scour level
Design scour depth =25.94 m ( Ref as per IIT R report, Table 5,
WL 3, Highest discharge condition)
Bed level = 32.6 RL
Observation -
JWIL-RANHILL JV
Recommendations -
For easier and faster construction, it would be more suitable to go for pile
foundation system instead of the well foundation system considered
initially. The depth of the pile shall be till the non-erodible rock level. Same
shall be confirmed by the soil consultant.
3. Design parameters-
The following are the parameters for load calculation with references -
Hydraulic parameters
Analysis
FEM modeling and analysis shall be done in Staad/ Etabs for the whole
structure with separate load cases as per IRC 6. Design shall be as per tender
conditions. Piles would be designed as composite section as per ANSI AISC
360 and other relevant codes.

4. Design forces
JWIL-RANHILL JV
4. Superstructure
Intake well shall be on steel piles in filled with concrete. Pile numbers and
depth would be decided after load calculations on the well and the soil
characteristics of the layers below the depth of fixity. Well location would
remain same as before.

2.0 Following levels shall be considered for the design of Intake Well:
Lower Level : 39.50 m
Mid Water Level ( Annual Average Water level) : 46.00 m
Top Level of Partition Wall (Refer Annexure-2) : 44.00m
three when three pumps are running 8376 m3/hr. Stand by capacity will
be [(2792*2)/ (8376)]*100 i.e. 66%
8.0 Shape of Intake Structure has been considered circular shape of 18.0 m
diameter.
9.0 Top elevation of Motor Floor Level has been considered 54.0 M which is
above the maximum high flood level in last 100 years.
10.0 Since KW rating of each motor is 360 KW, HT motor shall be used
11.0 Conforming to Cl.6.1 of IS: 11388, Velocity through Trash Rack/Screen
to be considered 0.75m/s.
12.0 Though velocity for sluice gate as per specification is 0.2m/s which is
excessively in lower side conducive for silt deposition, hence conforming
to Cl.5.2.71 (C) of CPHEEO Manual lower velocity though the port i.e.,
0.6m/s shall be provided to obtain satisfactory performance and
accordingly Sluice gates at inner face of inlet port shall be sized.
12.0 Bar Screens shall be provided at water face of inlet port which shall
have provision for cleaning.
13.0 Submersible de - silting pump shall be provided in pumping station.

JWIL-RANHILL JV
PLC based system (standalone) at Intake Water pump House Control room
shall be provided with communication connectivity port at the Intake pump
house PLC system, so that the same can be connected with WTP PLC for
monitoring only.
The interrogation voltage used shall be 24V DC, and Analog signals as 4-
20mA. The detailed specification as per Sub Section 8 and 9 of the contract
specification shall be followed.

It was observed that the maximum level of siltation for C03 is 34.863 m lvl.
LWL for this location is 39.55 m lvl. The sump level considered is 36.55 m lvl.
Also, as per Hydrology report from IIT Roorkee, there is high shear stress value at this location, making it
less vulnerable to siltation effects.
