A polynomial is a mathematical expression consisting of a sum of terms, each term

including a variable or variables raised to a power and multiplied by a coefficient
Exponents on those variables must be non-negative integers.

Example Polynomial or Non-Polynomial

4a3 1 term Polynomial

3x-2 Non-Polynomial

-5z2/3 Non-Polynomial

2x2 + 3x - 5 3 terms Polynomial

Adding Polynomials
Example: (6X + 5X2 3) + (2X2 7X 9)
Step 1) arrange the expressions (5X2 + 6X 3) + (2X2 7X 9)

Step 2) arrange in columns of like terms 5X2 + 6X 3

+ 2X2 7X 9

Step 3) add like terms 7X2 X 12
