Remote operation
The functions of the RD-50R(W) can be set remotely by transmitting the specified ASCII
code(s) from external equipment such as a computer.
* Instead of each ASCII code, the corresponding character code can be used.

When an ASCII code (character code) shown above in code list is received, the
RD-50R(W) transmits the current measured value once or transmits the current
and following measured values continuously, according to the received code.
If any code other than O (4FH)T (54H), U (55H), and H (48H) is received during
continuous transmission of the measured value, the RD-50R(W) disregards the code.
If the code other than O (4FH) is received at any time other than during continuous
transmission of the measured value, the RD-50R(W) disregards the code.
When the code N (continuous transmission) is received in the peak hold, bottom hold,
peak-to-peak hold, or sample hold mode, the RD-50R(W) transmits the hold value once
each time the synchronous signal is input (when the hold value is determined).
When the code M (4DH) or N (4EH) is received with ---- shown on the display, the
RD-50R(W) transmits the value the moment that a numerical value is displayed.

When an ASCII code (character code) shown above in code list II is

received, the RD-50R(W) performs the specified operation.

The procedures for the other codes shown above are identical to that for turning ON
synchronous input.
Closing of the synchronous input terminal takes priority over external synchronous
input.
If the code T (54H) or U (55H) is transmitted by the external equipment while the syn-
chronous input terminal is closed, the code is received but the synchronous input does
not turn ON or OFF.
When the code V (56H) or W (57H) for setting or cancelling the auto-zero function is
received, the RD-50R(W) stores the auto-zero value (measured value that is reset to
zero by setting the auto-zero function) each time the auto-zero function is invoked. This
is the same as when the panel key operation lock switch is set to OFF. (The stored val-
ues are retained even when the power is turned OFF.)
When the code V (56H), W (57H), or Q (51H) is received during data transmission,
the RD-50R(W) stops the data transmission immediately (midway through the transmis-
sion).

When an ASCII code (character code) shown above in code list III is received,
the RD-50R(W) performs the specified operation.

The procedure for selecting other functions is identical to that shown above.
After receiving the first code, the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for the recep-
tion of the second code. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive the second code within 3
seconds, it send back the code ?CR and returns to measurement status.

Changing the preset value

For the offset value, transmit a plus or minus sign and a 5-digit value. (Do not transmit
a decimal point.)
Ensure that the transmitted value is between -19999 and +19999.
Example: To set the offset value to 1.200, transmit +01200.
After receiving the code F (46H), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for the
reception of the second code. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive the second code D
(44H) within 3 seconds, it sends back the code ?CR and returns to measurement sta-
tus.
The RD-50R(W) changes the offset value of the offset No. that has been selected when
it receives the code D (44H).
After receiving the code D (44H), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for the
reception of an offset value. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive any value within 3 sec-
onds, it send back the code +99999CR and returns to measurement status.

For the span value, transmit a plus or minus sign and a 4-digit value. (Do not transmit
a decimal point.)
Ensure that the transmitted value is between -9999 and +9999.
Example: To set the span value to 3.500, transmit +3500CR.
For the shift value, transmit a plus or minus sign and a 5-digit value. (Do not transmit a
decimal point.)
Ensure that the transmitted value is between -19999 and +19999.
Example: To set the shift value to -4.500, transmit -04500CR.
If the RD-50R(W) does not receive any value within 3 seconds after it enters a wait state
to wait for the reception of a span or shift value, it sends back the code +99999CR and
returns to measurement status.

Rd_eng2.fm Page 66 Tuesday, November 6, 2001 7:21 PM

After receiving the code S (53H), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for the
reception of the second code D (44H). If the RD-50R(W) does not receive the code
within 3 seconds, it sends back the code ?CR and returns to measurement status.

Changing the hysteresis margin

For the hysteresis margin, transmit a 3-digit value.
Ensure that the transmitted value is between 0 and 100.
Example: To set the hysteresis margin to 5, transmit 005CR.

When an ASCII code (character code) shown above in code list IV is received,
the RD-50R(W) performs the specified operation.

If the bank No. has been set to 0 and a second code of P, D, or R is received, the
RD-50R(W) sends back the code ?CR.

As for the MDL function, the RD-50R(W) registers the bank No., the number of correc-
tion points, and the correction values that have been set when it receives a second code
S (53H).
Even if the second code D (44H) is received followed by the correction value, the RD-
50R(W) does not register the correction value until it receives the code S (53H).
When the second code Q (51H) is received, the RD-50R(W) only exits from the MDL
function setting mode, and does not register the set values.
After receiving the first code L (4CH), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for
the reception of the second code. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive the second code
within 3 seconds, it transmits the code ?CR every 3 seconds until it receives the code
Q.

67
Rd_eng2.fm Page 68 Tuesday, November 6, 2001 7:21 PM

Changing the number of correction points

After receiving the code B (42H) or P (50H), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and
waits for the reception of the next code. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive a bank No.
or the number of correction points within 3 seconds, it sends back the code ?CR and
enters a wait state to wait for further receptions.

Entering the correction value

For the input value or the correction value, transmit a plus or minus sign and a 5-digit
value. (Do not transmit a decimal point.)
Ensure that the input value and the correction value is between -19999 and +19999.
Example: When the input value is -3.500, transmit -03500CR.
After receiving the code D (44H), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for the
reception of a numerical value. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive any numerical value
within 3 seconds, it sends back the code +99999CR and enters a wait state to wait for
further receptions.
Ensure that the input value increases regularly as the correction point No. becomes
larger and that the correction value increases or decreases or decreases regularly as
the correction point No. becomes larger.

Outputting the correction value

The input value and the correction value, respectively, are output as a plus or minus
sign and a 5-digit value. (The decimal point is not output and transmitted.)
Example: When the displayed value (correction value) is -1.250, -01250CR is output
and transmitted.
After receiving the code R (52H), the RD-50R(W) enters a wait state and waits for the
reception of the next code. If the RD-50R(W) does not receive any correction point No.
within 3 seconds, it sends back the code +99999CR and enters a wait state to wait for
further receptions.

Registering the settings

If the input value does not increases regularly as the correction point No. becomes
larger or the correction value does not increase or decrease regularly as the correction
point No. becomes larger, the RD-50R(W) sends back ERRORCR.

6.5 Hints on correct use

1. Do not install the RD in the following places:
Places directly exposed to sunlight.
Places where the temperature drops below 0C or exceeds 50C.
Places where the relative humidity drops below 35% or exceeds 85%.
Places where temperature fluctuations may cause condensation.
Places where the RD may be exposed to corrosive or flammable gas.
Places exposed to airborne dust or corrosive substances such as salt, or
metal particles.
Places where the RD may be subjected to vibration or impact.
Places where water, oil, or chemicals may splash the RD.
Places where the RD may be affected by noise interference.

2. Connecting analog output equipment

To prevent the RD from malfunctioning due to noise interference, take the fol-
lowing countermeasures.
Countermeasures
1)Use a 1-core shielded cable for the output line. Where possible, do not use
a cable longer than 10 m. If a cable longer than 10 m is required, convert
the voltage signal into a current signal.
Displacement sensor, etc.
1-core shielded cable
Analog RD
output INPUT

0V 0V

2)Keep the wiring and connection cables away from high-voltage lines or
power lines; otherwise noise may cause the RD to malfunction. Be sure to
keep the wiring separate.
3)When using only one of two sets of input terminals (5 and 6, 7 and 8), con-
nect the unused terminals.

3. Power supply
When using a commercially available switching regulator, be sure to correctly
ground the chassis ground or earth ground terminal.

4. Fastening terminal screws

Be sure to completely fasten the terminal screws to prevent the RD from mal-
functioning.

5. Warming up
After supplying power, leave the RD for 10 minutes prior to starting to use it.
The internal circuit does not stabilize immediately after the power is supplied,
sometimes causing measured values to fluctuate.
