REFLECTION AND SELF EVALUATION

MDD Standard
The teacher candidate identifies the main things learned in this practicum and
ways in which this learning has informed their professional development needs,
reflecting on the meaning, values, and purposes that will orient his or her
professional life.

4.1 Reflect on the main things you have learned about teaching and how these
relate to your understanding of the profession and the values that guide your
work.

According to this new experience that I had the pleasure to develop, I must say
that one of the most important things that I have learned is related to the class
time. While performing my interventions, I realized that time is incredibly important
when planning and when developing the tasks with the students. For instance, I
planned some things for my classes in a certain period of time; however, while
doing the class I noticed that some activities were well developed and some others
were a bit long. In terms of content management, I felt pretty secure with both
plannings; nonetheless, it is different when you are in front of the class and you
have to explain the content to others.

There was of course, things that for me were hugely satisfying. One of these, was
to hear my students saying that they really enjoy the activities that I prepared for
them and that they now are able to understand much better the content of
Reported Speech. In my two lessons, the students were very welling to do the
activities and following my instructions. Another thing that I liked while doing my
classes and supporting my School-teacher too, was that they had not fear of
asking me the doubts that the content provokes on them. I really felt that my
students learned and that they felt good and confident with me as their teacher.
As a conclusion, I must say and repeat that being teacher is not as easy as it looks
or as we think it is before having this experience. In fact, it never saw that easy, but
now it looks more difficult than before being teacher. It is a complete hard work and
can be frustrating sometimes. For this reason and many more, I admire hugely to
all my teachers because it is not easy to prepare a class and adapt it according to
the students we could have inside the classroom. However, that feeling of
satisfaction you have later, when you recognize on their faces that they understood
the content and they felt grateful to you, is everything.

4.2 Describe one or two areas of professional growth (e.g. instructional strategies,
content knowledge).

I strongly believe that one of my professional areas to growth, probably is related to

planning. I think that planning is not easy and fun. Thinking about what are you
going to teach, which material are you going to use, how many students are inside
the classroom, how are you going to fractionate the time in order that everyone can
acquire the knowledge, etc. There are several things in what we need to think while
planning our classes, but it is also true that is completely and imperative necessary
to create this lessons plan to guide us.
