Learning Target I can tell the main idea and details of a text
Procedure I DO-(10 minutes) Start by reading Arctic Life aloud. Then, to
activate our previous knowledge and practice with main idea, we will
watch the Brainpop Jr. video titled Main Idea. Explain, when I am
trying to tell the main idea I am thinking what is this article mostly
about. So the main idea of the article I just read you is about the
animals that live in the Arctic. Show part of my organizer on
Smartboard. Explain, when I am giving details, I am thinking what are
things I am learning about the main idea. So a detail from the article I
read you is, a walrus lives in the artic and has blubber to keep it warm.
Show the rest of the article. Lets try together!

WE DO- (15 minutes) We will read All About Ants together. After
reading the article, students will be asked to turn and talk (to their table
partners) and decide what they think the main idea is. Using Padlet,
each table will share their main idea. Discussion. Write a main idea on
organizer. Next, students will talk with their tables and find 1 detail
from the text. Using Padlet, each table will share their detail.
Discussion. Complete organizer.

YOU DO-(25 minutes) Students will be placed into their groups where
they will read the informational text given to them and decide what the
main idea is. Students will be told to come up with the main idea
together, then each student is to add a detail. This is where students will
use the wiki to read their article and complete their graphic organizer.

SHARE-(10 minutes) Each group will come, pull up their work on the
wiki page, and share their article and what they found the main idea to
be and things they learned about the main idea.

Assessment Formatively, during we do, I will ask the table groups to add to the
Padlet. This will let me know which table groups get it and which do
not. After independent work time, the students work on the wiki is a
formative assessment that will show me which groups were getting it
and which need additional support.
Accommodations I will pull struggling students in a small group and work with them
during the you do portion. If there are ESL students, have them
partnered with strong students to support them.
