Thefollowinginformationisforreferenceonlyanddoesnotconstitutetheonlywaytoinstall
metalroofingandsiding.Itisprovidedasastartingguidetobegininstallingthepanelling.
Thisinformationreferstotheexposedfastenersystem.Installationoftheconcealedfastening
systemvarieswithpaneltype.Aninstallationguidemaybeobtainedfortheexactsystemyou
areinstallingoneachsystemfromthemanufacturer.

TOOLSNEEDED

Screwgun(ordrill),magneticbits,tinsnips(straight,left,&right),tapemeasure,chalkline,drill
bits,skillsawwithabrasivesawblades,safetygoggles,gloves,earplugs,&sawhorses.

SQUAREBUILDING

Foracleanandsuccessfulinstallationofthemetalpanels,itisimportantthatthebuildingand
substructurearesquare.Thefirstpanelmustbesquareastheremainingpanelswillfollowthepath
ofthefirstone.Ifthefirstpanelisnotsquare,theresultinginstallationwilllooklikeasawtooth.

STARTPOINT

Roofingandsidingshouldbestartedattheendofthebuilding.Beginyourpanellingintothe
directionoftheprevailingwind&rainsothattheweathergoesoverthelap,notintoit.

LAPDIRECTION

Thereisanunderlaplegandanoverlaplegonmostpanels(seebelow).Itisthereforeimportantto
determineinadvanceofinstallingthefirstpanel,whichiswhich.Theendlegontheoverlapside
doesnotreachthedeck/purlinswheninplace.Theendlegontheunderlapsidetouchesthe
deck/purlinswheninplace.Thisunderlapsideiscalledthepurlinleg.Theoverlaplegwillalwaysbe
theoutsidelegonyourfirstpanel,regardlessifstartingontherightorleftsideofthebuilding.

SEALANT
Dependingonthepanelprofileonthepanel,sidelapsealant(above)isrecommendedonpitchesof
2:12orless.Sidelapsealantisadoublesticktape,placedontheunderlaplegofeachpanelatthe
lapleg.

CUTTING

Werecommendthatmetalpanelsbecutwithtinsnipsorforlongcutsashearornibbler.Theshear
&nibblerareexpensivetoolsandintheirabsence,askillsawwithametalcarboncuttingblade
maybeused.Panelsshouldbeturnedupsidedownandheldsecurelywhilecutting.Alwayswear
safetygoggleswhencuttingmetalpanels.Itiscriticaltocleanallmetalparticlesfromthepanelto
preventpittingandrusting.

FASTENERS

Fastenerplacement(seebelow)variesbyarea,butthegeneralruleisonefastenernexttoeach
sideofthehighrib,with25verticalspacing,dependingonsubstrate.

FASTENERINSTALLATION:

Screwfastenershavebeenproventohave2to3timestheholdingpowerofnails.
Formaximumholdingpower,itisrecommendedthattheminimumwoodpenetrationbeone
inch.
Utilizingscrewfastenerswithneopreneandmetalwashershaveanexcellentsealingquality
andarespecificallydesignedforfasteninginthesheetpanoftrapezoidalribmetalroofing
panels.
Screwfastenerscanalsobeusedonthepanelshighrib,particularlyforsidelapattachment.
Ifnailsareutilized,applicationisrecommendedonlythruthepanelshighrib.Again,the
fastenerslengthshouldassurepenetrationofatleast1intowood.Forplywood1/2orless,
use#14woodscrews.
