In 1995 my husband Mike was diagnosed with Huntingtons Disease. As the disease progressed ‘you mourn the loss of your spouse as he becomes totally dependent on you. Feeding, dressing and personall hygeine all becomes a chore to him and itis just like having a small child again. In 2003 on my Doctor's advice he was placed in Parkwood Hospital where he received excellent care. As Parkwood took a ditferent route in care he was transfered to Caressant Care in ‘Woodstock in 2006. Here he resided until his death until December 2, 2012...and the mouning begins again. During his time in Caressant Care and after his death | slowly rebuilt my life. With Mike being ill this long it took a finacial, physical and mental toll on me. Going back to work at fifty was definitly not in our dreams but | smiled and carried on with my life. ‘Then | get a phone call from the Woodstock Crime Division and my whole world changed. | kept thinking this cannot be happening, Telling family about this crime was way more difficult then telling them about his death. Every day all day this is consuming my mind. My concentration is gone, feelings of guilt, anger at myself, the nursing home and the whole system. This should never happen when you think you are putting your loved one in the hands of trained professionals. | have cut back on my hours at ily exausted. | am stil trying to get through each day. This work due to being mentally and phys mouning period will never be over.
