[R.vElzabeth Tracey Mae WETTLAUFER ——TeaselFite No, 05777]
Vietimriter’s name: Gladys Jean MILLARD / M, Heather SMITH
My name is M, Heather SMITH. My aunt, Gladys Jean MILLARD, was one of the
murder vietims of Mg, WETTLAUFER, Aunt Gladys waa my father's older siotor by two
years.
[My father and my aunt remained good friends throughout their Ives, despite one living
in Vancouver and one in Woodstock, Ont. Beginning in the mid-1990's, my work in the
{federal government required me to travel often to Ottawa and Montreal. | would arrange
a visit with Aunt Gladys on most trips, and over the years we became very close,
My Aunt Glady was one of the most happy-go-lucky people you'd ever meet. She was a
very giving person, always smiling and getting the most out of life. Her siblings, in-laws,
nieces and nephews always got calls and cards from her on their birthdays. She loved
to bake and sew contributions for her church’s fund-raisers. She was a well-known and
much appreciated seamstress in Woodstock.
‘When my aunt passed away in October of 2011, | flew out to Ontario to deliver the
‘eulogy at her funeral
‘Then in October of 2016, | received a call from my cousin telling me my aunt was one of
the alleged vietims of Ms, WETTLAUFER, and warning me the news would hit the
airways the next day. | had the difficult task of warning my elderly mother (Gladys's
sister-in law) and my brother and sister.
To say | was devastated would be an understatement, we all were. | find it very hard to
describe how | was feeling - it was like my aunt had died twice, only this time | had to
rap my head around the possiblity this dear, sweet woman may have been murdered,
| suffer from Multiple Sclerosis, and I realized some of my physical symptoms were
‘acting up, My doctor confirmed these symptoms were likely exacerbated from the stress
brought on by this news. | was unable to sleep and suffered from some serious
headaches.
In January of 2017, my mother fell and broke her hip. For the frst few days in the
hospital, | watched her recall in horror whenever a nurse would approach with a needle.
| didn't understand why until Mum asked me il thought there were any nurses in this
hospital who were capable of doing to her what Ms. WETTLAUFER had done to
Gladys.
| travelled from my home in Surrey, British Columbia, to attend the 2017-06-01 trial of
Ms, WETTLAUFER. Once again, the stress of reliving my aunts death, and hearing
hewhat Ms. WETTLAUFER said about Gladys during her taped confession, has
exacerbated a number of my MS symptoms and | have been off work for several days
now. Again, | am experiencing severe headaches and cannot sleep,
| ind ithard to associate the sweet, loveable aunt | knew with the "aggressive" patient
Ms, WETTLAUFER described in her confession. | can only assume the aggression may
have been a symptom of Gladys's advancing Alzheimer's.
Sincerely,
M. Heather Smfn
