VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENT

Superior/Ontario Court of Justice

Canada Form 34.2

Province of Ontario Subsection 722(4) of the Criminal Code
Southwest Region Case/File No. 05/17

Court Location: 415 Hunter Street, Woodstock, Ontario

In the matter of: R.v. Elizabeth Tracy Mae WETTLAUFER

Victim/writers name: The Family of Mary Zarawinski

We are the family of Mary Zarawinkski. When Mary was murdered, we lost a loving

mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Our family

has be struggling with pain, anger and grief, since learning of how Marys life really

ended. Five and a half years after her passing in 2011, we had to begin the grieving

process all over again when our family was told that Mary did not die in her sleep

from a heart attack as we were originally told, but that, a nurse, who was caring for

Mary at Caressant Care decided to play God and end Marys Life.

We, the entire family, have all suffered emotionally, mentally, socially and physically

as a result of this crime. Some of us are suffering from chronic pain, fibromyalgia,

sleeplessness and other ailments brought on by, and intensified, as a result of having

to deal with the stress and emotional strain this is causing us. Those of us who work,

find it difficult to concentrate and be productive and our quality and quantity of
work has and continues to suffer. We have had financial loss due to medical expenses

for professional therapy and counselling, as well as lost wages for missed time from

work.

We suffer from depression and anxiety and no longer find the joy we once had from

our social activities with family, friends or the clubs and organizations we belong

to. That joy was taken from us when Mary was deliberately taken from us.

We worry and are fearful now as our family members continue to grow older.

This criminal has weakened trust in the professionals that we put our faith in to look

after our aging family members. We fear, that had she not confessed,

the power that this nurse had and her ability to execute her plans, killing and hurting

many vulnerable people without being caught, has weakened our faith in the

profession and the senior care facilities.

We find it difficult to maintain an overall happy and fulfilling family life anymore

because this murderer so callously dismissed and placed such little value on, Marys

life.

This horrendous crime now consumes our thoughts and fills us all with hatred and

rage. These feelings are very foreign to most of our family members, especially given

our strong faith in God. This same faith was used as an excuse and reason to kill. This

is shattering to us.

Marys killer described her as feisty and fun. Yes, that was our mom and grandma.

She was also a meek and gentle woman. A lady, who at 96 years of age, still enjoyed

looking her best; complete with lipstick, jewelry and nail polish.
She was a compassionate, caring and loving woman. She loved her family and always

took pride in them and how she raised them. Mary looked good and felt good for her

age and was so looking forward to celebrating her 100th year birthday. She was

adamant that she would live to see that day and we would all be celebrating with a big

party, eating cake adorned with 100 candles on it.

She was robbed of that. We were robbed of that. Mary was made to die alone without

her family by her side. Without a chance to even say goodbye.
