JOB DESCRIPTION | Receptionist & Eye Technician for Dr. Thang Q. Bui, OD.

Summary: Provides general office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks. The
receptionist/eye technician will be responsible for answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate
associates, mail distribution, and requisition of office and contact lens supplies as well as additional clerical duties.
Receptionists, in their free time, will also input patients charts and medical history in the EHR. They have the task
to conduct preliminary examination of patients prior to their evaluation by the physician. Receptionists are also
responsible for checking patients benefits & eligibilities with their insurance for routine eye exams, dilations, and
medical office visits for eye infections & injuries. While maintaining the front desk responsibilities, they will also be
in charge of contact lens fittings & educations with patients of all ages. The employee will be taught thoroughly on
each responsibility through training. The duration of training depends on the employee and the rate of how quickly
they can absorb the information. Training is both hands-on and verbal knowledge while working with the doctor,
office manager, and the rest of the staff.

Optometrist receptionists interface with patients and doctors. They answer phone calls, schedule appointments,
maintain charts and greet patients. The receptionist is also responsible for regular office duties, light cleaning,
keeping track of supplies and maintaining office equipment. Other duties also include preliminary testing patient
vision, maintaining supplies of contact lenses, teaching contact lens care and use, and authorizing insurance and
billing.

Essential Functions
1. Answers telephone and directs the caller to the appropriate associate. Will transfer a caller to an associates
voice mailbox when the associate is unavailable.
2. Greets and directs patients to the office.
3. Takes and retrieves messages for various personnel.
4. Provides callers with information such as company address, directions to the company location, company
fax numbers, company website and other related information.
5. Receives, sorts, and forwards incoming mail. Maintains and routes publications.
6. Assists with patient interaction in preliminary screenings, contact lens fittings and educations.
7. Assists in the ordering, receiving, stocking and distribution of office & contact lens supplies.
8. Assists with other related clerical duties such as photocopying, faxing, filing and collating.
9. Interact with patients in a courteous manner no matter what the situation is.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as
computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Also we will routinely use auto
refraction/keratometer machine, tonometer, and auto lens autometer. We maintain the supply of contact lens trials
and contact lens solution on a daily basis.

Our office is a zero tolerance zone for any unprofessional behavior between coworkers and patients. We ask that
the employees leave any non-work related problems at the door to encourage a positive work environment.

Pay
Pay will be discussed & can be negotiated with the office manager.

Physical Demands
This job will require the ability to handle files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary and lifting boxes
of patient charts. May have to carry or move at least 5-10 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work


This is a part-time position.
Days and hours of work needed are Mondays & Wednesdays, 9 AM to 5 PM.
Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Travel
Dr. Bui of Bui Eye Care has 2 locations, on 21st & Maize inside the New Market Square Wal-Mart & on 53rd &
Meridian near Park City/Valley Center. Locations are subject to change in the following year.

Required Education and Experience


1. High school diploma.
2. Some customer service experience.

Preferred Education and Experience


1. Associates degree.
2. One or more years of related experience.
3. HIPAA Certification.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications


A strong interest in the medical and/or optometric field. Passion to help & interact with patients and others around
them. An innate responsibility to be productive.
