Re: Conference of Summary and Directives

A conference was conducted today to discuss issues related to your work attendance. Of
the twelve absences registered for this academic year, ten have occurred on a Monday or a
Friday. It has also been brought to our attention that on a date where you had called in sick there
were pictures uploaded to a personal social media account that showed you on a cruise.

Contractually you are allocated 80 hours of personal illness time per academic year.
These hours are provided and to be used at your own discretion. Personal illness absences do not
include vacations, recreational travel, or to be abused as a way of extending weekends.

The greatest tool for student success is teacher efficacy. Your numerous absences
negatively reflect on your ability to establish routines, structure and a guiding presence in your
classroom. Studies have shown that regular absences have the same impact in a classroom as
replacing an experienced teacher with one in their first year. Furthermore, it is still the first
semester of school and you have a negative balance of personal illness hours. Further missed
days will not be covered by your sick days, but by sub dock; which will take a substitutes pay
directly from your months salary.

Effective immediately, you are directed as follows:


1. Any further sick days must include a doctors note for the period missed
2. Any further sick days will be sub docked and subtracted from your monthly salary

Failure to follow these directives may result in discipline up to, and including, termination.

This notice serves to inform you of your right to appeal through your bargaining association by
filing a grievance at Level Three within ten work days from the service of notice. You may also
appeal to the Board of Trustees within ten work days from service of notice. Failure to file a
grievance or an appeal shall constitute a waiver of the right to an appeal and the discipline shall
be final.

prepare a response which will be attached to this document.
