Present Continuous

- it expresses an action that takes place right now, in the moment of speech.

- it is also used when we want to express planed, future actions (in the near future) (I am leaving at 9)

Affirmative S + to be + V-ing Negative S + to be + not + V-ing

I am reading now. We are not singing now

You are eating an ice cream now. You arent drinking beer now, you are drinking
tea.

Mike is writing. He isnt watching TV

Interrogative To be + S + V-ing?

Are they driving fast? Yes, they are.

Are you listening to the radio? No, Im not.

Is your friend sleeping now?

Spelling rules when adding ing

1. If the verb ends in an E we remove the E and add ING

to live - living
to have- having
to make - making
to take - taking

2. If the verb ends in a consonant + vowel + consonant, we double the final consonant and add ING

to stop - stopping
to sit - sitting
to plan - planning
to get - getting
to swim swimming
