During the 2016-2017 school year, Students for

Lifes team and student groups helped 34 women choose life

(6 chose adoption) and assisted 265 pregnant and parenting

2016 & 2017 high school and college students in 37 states. In addition,
we are mentoring more than 200 Students for Life groups

participating in our Pregnant on Campus Initiative. These groups
work hard throughout the school year to offer services such as:
referrals to local pregnancy and parenting resource organizations,

transporting students to appointments, creating and fundraising
for scholarships, babysitting, collecting and donating baby items,
hosting baby showers, organizing campus pregnancy resource
displays, advertising community resources, establishing lactation
rooms and diaper decks on campus, and more!

trainings, campus tours, and group
projects have successfully equipped our
student leaders to change minds and
save lives!
In April 2016, a pregnant student
posted on the social media platform,
YikYak, asking for help. Our student
leader, Jessica, at Colorado State
University-Pueblo responded with
a simple message and offered to talk
with her. This pregnant student was
considering abortion; however, after
messaging with Jessica, she learned
about her local pregnancy resource
centers free ultrasounds. Jessica
met with the student several times,
and they became close friends. The
student chose Life, and her baby was
born in late Fall 2016!
While sidewalk counseling, Kasey,
a leader of the Students for Life
group at SUNY-Geneseo, gave
her contact information to an
abortion determined teen outside
the abortion facility. The teen girl
contacted to Kasey later to confirm
that she chose Life!
At Iowa State University, the
Students for Life club hosted a lecture
featuring MTVs teen birthparents,
Caitlynn and Tyler. Three years later, a
student couple contacted the student
group to tell them that this event was
instrumental in helping them decide
to pursue adoption. This couple is
now married with two children.
Mississippi State Universitys
Students for Life served 20 student
parents and their babies at their
annual student baby shower.
Additionally, one MSU student leader
has been critical in assisting a mom
who chose Life despite an extremely
difficult situation of domestic abuse.
More than 15 Students for Life groups
have taken on the task of organizing and
fundraising for scholarship funds for
pregnant and parenting students. These
groups distributed between $750 and
$20,000 to students on their campuses.
SFLA William Wilberforce Fellow, Alexa
Birkel, set out on a mission to establish
an endowment scholarship fund for
pregnant and parenting students.
Leading the charge, Alexa and her
Students for Life group at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln fundraised over
$25,000 in seven months!
Another SFLA William Wilberforce
Fellow, Lindsay Langhals, has also
committed to fundraising $20,000
for an endowment scholarship at
Montana State University. Her
fundraising currently exceeds $5,800.
Texas Students for Life at the
University of Texas at Austin also
coordinated their first scholarship!
They provided a $750 scholarship and
a baby shower for new parents, Valerie
and Benjamin, on their campus.

Staff Change Hearts and Minds
While tabling with a Pregnant on Campus
free speech board, Keri Landeche
(Northeast Regional Coordinator) spoke
with a Concordia University (NY)
student who had just found out that
she was pregnant. The young girl was
abortion-minded and was panicking
about her future. Keri spent over an hour
listening and talking with the girl. She
provided material resources and assisted
her with scheduling an appointment with
the Sisters of Life.

SFLAs Building a Better Future program
is creating new opportunities for high
school students to learn how to respond
to and support pregnant teens. Already,
we have several ambitious Students for
Life groups leading the way:
Piedra Vista High School (NM)
Students for Life has assisted 5 teen
parents in choosing Life! In several
cases, our student leader not only
informed the abortion-minded
students about their local pregnancy
resource center, but she also joined
these young moms at their ultrasound
appointments.
At Farmington High School
(NM), our student leaders assisted
an abortion-minded peer and
encouraged her to pursue adoption
instead. When she later miscarried,
the student leader helped her find a
therapist to support her through the
grieving and healing process. Another
student leader at this school used the
skills and resources that she learned
through her Students for Life group to
help a family member choose Life!
Caledonia Students for Life at
Caledonia High School (MI) collected
over 200 items for a baby shower this
spring. These donations supported
two pregnant teens in their school.
