Understanding American Indian

Children and Adolescents Lesson Plan

Objectives:

To understand Native Americans origins and how they are living now, educators must also
understand the religion, gender, traditions of Native Americans and how educators should include
them in the classroom. Also to understand what Adolescents think and how teachers can help them
through the classroom.

Materials/Equipment:
Equipment: computer with internet for presentation and videos. Instructor will provided
materials for games and exercises. Students will need to bring paper and a pen for notes and
exercises.
Instruction:
A . Teacher Procedures:
a. Instructor will give lesson to students about the topic.
b. Lesson will be given in the form of a lecture with visual aids and videos to help
with explanation of topic.
c. Instructor will include an exercise to encourage discussion of topic.
i. Exercise 1 KWL Chart:
1. Chart will be filed out before and after the lecture
2. A KWL Chart is a chart of three columns with the topics of what
the students know/ what they wish to know/ and what they learned
ii. Exercise 2 Answer Ball!:
1. After KWL chart is filled out the game will begin.
2. Answer Ball game: instructor will toss the ball to a student; once
student has the ball they are the only ones who can answer the
discussion question. If question is well thought and answered
appropriately student gets a treat/point.
Game is meant to encourage discussion there are not right or wrong
answers. However answers must be relevant to the topic to receive
points.
B . Student Activities:
a. Activity 1: KWL Chart
i. Students will create a KWL Chart on their own sheets of paper and
instructors will follow along on the board.
b. Activity 2: Discussion/ Answer ball!!
i. Students must be prepared to discuss what can be done in the
classroom to help Native Americans and adolescents.
ii. Students are expected to participate in the discussion game.
Closure:
The point of the lecturer is to understand what the Native American culture is suffering and
achieving and what future educators can do to help, also to understand how to help Adolescents in
the classroom.
Evaluation:
Answer Ball!: Game will be the form of evaluation for the students. If the student dose not
participate or dose not answer the question is not relevant or lacks deep thought
student will not receive points. Inductors determine where the students are
correct.
