Campus Improvement Plan 2

When looking at 2015-2016 TAPR (Texas Academic Performance Report) I noticed that

the percentage of grade and subjects were lower in comparison to schools in the district and

state. I have worked at my school for three years now and in those three years I have seen the

students percentage increase and decrease amongst the grades and subjects.

The items that I would like to discuss in the Campus Improvement Plan would be Grade

3-Mathematics, Grade 4-Writing, Grade 5-Seience.

STAAR Percent at Level II State District Campus When looking at the math scores for
Satisfactory Standard or
Above the campus, mathematics was low

Grade Reading 2016 73% 67% 76% overall and I feel that if we were able
3
Mathematics 2016 75% 70% 59% to focus on mathematics when the

students are first being introduced to it in the testing layout then hopefully the scores in the upper

grades, 4th and 5th, would increase as the students progress. My school has put in a lot of work

and resources into providing the third grade team with materials and tools they need to reach

their students and ensure that they are STAAR Percent at Level II State District Campus

getting the help they need. When discussing
Grade 4 Reading 2016 75% 69% 57%
4th grade writing scores, the important thing Mathematics 2016 73% 70% 49%
Writing 2016 69% 64% 35%
to remember is that our school has 214

English Language Learners. This plays a huge role in the development of language and writing.

Lastly, the 5th grade science scores

are an area to be improved.
Grade Reading 2016 81% 73% 65%

Mathematics 2016 86% 80% 67%
Science 2016 74% 68% 30%

Science has always been a struggle due to the fact that the students do not fully see the extent of

the material until 5th grade. Every year prior, the focus is mainly on reading and mathematics. So

when students finally see it then are quickly expecting to perform well. These expectations are

difficult for students and the teachers.

As stated before, I feel that the demographics of my school plays a big part in the

outcome of our performance. The breakdown of our school

are behind academically because they are not familiar with the language.

When reviewing the information in the TAPR, I believe that it is important to understand

the numbers and what it means for the school. Three years ago HISD wanted to close down my

school, the community and faculty fought to keep it open. The numbers showed how well the

students did academically and all the resources that were being used to see that the students

succeed. My school has made huge strides to see that it remains open for years to come.
