This question lends itself to the students personal experience with Pollution and
how they went about resolving it, be it through clean-up projects, recycling used items,
encouraging others to respect the environment and creating awareness.

not enough.

no understanding of the topic. Needs point development. No real effort shown.

REFLECTION

My class would get at least two weeks notice before giving this quiz, simply to allow for
more time for understanding and appreciation of the topic. Pollution is a common yet important
topic to teach children, especially since the students would be exposed to litter right inside their
school. Within this two week period, the first week can be spent focusing on the different types
of pollution - land, water, air and noise - and how to correct them. Students can be broken up into
groups to make posters or small flashcards to help them remember the information and to make
the information relevant and fun for them.
In the second week, a classroom recycle bin can be set up for students to recycle different
materials such as paper and plastics, to keep the focus on pollution and the importance of the 3
Rs. A nice field trip for them would be to organise a beach clean-up project to allow students to
see how pollution directly affects their environment and how they can fix it. Even something as
simple as a Collection drive for recyclable items can be done. Children appreciate lessons better
when there is a hands-on aspect and responsibility portion and seeing that I have boys, sitting
and learning is not always best for them. They enjoy being involved in the setting up and
managing of their learning process and the more involved they become, is the better they not
only remember the information, but also develop an understanding and appreciation for it.
