In the article, Learning Styles in a College of Agriculture by Robert M. Torres and Jamie
Cano, it discusses the factors that influence the educational process in research of human
developmental stages. University instructors face the challenge of being unable to recognize
the learning differences of their student. Two types of learning styles such as field-dependent
and field-independent have the application to educational concerns. One learning style is
responsive to social reinforcement and the other is intrinsically motivated and unresponsive to
social reinforcement. The purpose of this article was to determine the learning style that was
preferred in the College of Agriculture.
The method that was used to gather data was on the senior students in the College of
Agriculture. The students scoring lower than the national mean were preferred field-dependent
Colton Watson
learning style. It was also tested that more female students preferred a field-dependent
learning style. Instructors should apprehend the learning styles as referring to actions rather
than the abilities of the students. The instructors should also be sensitive to the different
learning styles and their differences in the students.
