Review the job description below. Write a two page single-spaced cover letter and prepare a two
page resume for the job. Use only actual information from your own life. That is, use your own
resume (which you will have improved by on the readings for this assignment). Do not include
fictional information.

The purpose of the assignment is to see how well you can present yourself, and the public policy
and administration knowledge you have obtained, for an employment position.

You will be graded by how clearly your resume is written, and how well you relate your real-life
experience to the job advertisement. Be sure to also review chapter 9 of the Klassen and Dwyer
book (this is a required reading for the course).

At the conclusion of this assignment, you will have a strong resume that accurately reflects who
you are and the skills you have. Additionally, you will have a strong cover letter that you can adapt
for other job applications.

Do you have strong research and analysis techniques? If so, bring your policy development
expertise to this role to provide support to the branch policy and program development for the
Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Feathers of Hope project.

Note: The successful candidate will be able to work out of any of the following locations:

What can I expect to do in this role?

Research and collect various sources of information to support policy and program development
and participate in the Feathers of Hope Initiative
Analyze and evaluate policy and program information and data
Liaise with internal and external stake holders to discuss research and exchange information
Draft correspondence in response to public inquiries regarding the Feathers of Hope Initiative
Track and coordinate financial, policy and other commitments to support Feathers of Hope
Initiative office communications

Technical Knowledge
You have knowledge of program and policy development principles, relationship strategies and
decision-making processes
You have knowledge of planning and organizational methods to support project management
through timely research and preparation of summaries, reports, presentations and other
documentations
You have the ability to acquire knowledge of Aboriginal social issues and organizations and
programs to prepare draft policy and program recommendations and responses

Communication and Consultation Skills


You have oral and written communication skills to respond to information requests, write reports,
Prepare analysis and prepare briefing notes and policy documents for cabinet submissions
You have the ability to assist in the consultation processes with First Nations, Mtis and
urban Aboriginal communities and advocacy groups

Interpersonal Skills
You have interpersonal skills and diplomacy in researching stakeholder issues,
responding with discretion and liaising with stakeholders
You have presentation skills to effectively communicate information to a variety of contacts

You have research and analytical techniques to conduct research and analysis of various sources
of information, prepare statistical analyses and summarize research findings
