Benhard Bremseth

Bernie the 12th child and 7th son of Arndt and Beret Bremseth was born on the farm near Lenora,
Minnesota. He attended the Elstad School and was confirmed at Elstad Lutheran Church.

Bernie worked on the home farm and also worked as a hired man for neighbors and relatives. In 1924 he
married Florence Thoen, the only daughter of Martin and Hilda Thoen.

In 1927 he moved his family, Florence, Allen (2 years) and Beverly (1 year) to California where they lived
for 12 years. His work was an ice delivery route. Bernie and Florence were active members of Our
Saviors Lutheran Church in Los Angeles. When they moved back to Minnesota they lived with Grandpa
and Grandma Bremseth on the farm for four years.

In 1943 when Allen joined the army and Beverly got married, Bernie bought the Lanesboro Milk Delivery
Route and they moved into Lanesboro. David (Arndt and Berets 79th and last grandchild) was born in
1946. In 1948 they built their home in the Brooklyn section of Lanesboro. They were members of
Bethlehem Lutheran Church where Bernie sang in the choir for thirty years. He was also very active in
the Sons of Norway Lodge and a volunteer member of the Lanesboro Fire Department.

Bernie enjoyed playing the violin, skiing, playing baseball, golf, bowling, dancing and travel. One of his
special trips was to Norway, where he visited relatives and saw places from the youth of his parents.

After Bernie sold the Milk route, they managed the Thoen Hotel and Caf for five years. His last job was
as a janitor for the Lanesboro school system. In addition to these positions Bernie was a bus driver for
Lanesboro Schools for approximately 17 years.

Bernies great sorrows were the loss of his son, Allen in 1964 and his grandson, Bobby in 1966. Bernie
took great enjoyment in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

It could be said of Bernie that he loved life and lived it to the fullest. He died while dancing on the dance
floor and is buried overlooking the golf course, two of his favorite things!
