After Earthquake :Lalitpur-Chapagaun
Report
Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake on 25 April, 2015. Till date, over 5000 people are
dead, over 10,000 injured and millions displaced. The earthquake wrecked havoc not only in the
capital city Kathmandu but more so in the surrounding areas.
Adjacent to Kathmandu, Lalitpur is a combination of urban and rural areas. Lalitpur 1 and the
28 Village Development Committees is rural with limited infrastructure including roads limiting
access to this area. It is a poor community which depends on low ration stocks and day to day
sustenance from farming. The earthquake of 2015 has decimated the homes in these villages. The
villagers have no shelter and at this moment have no tents or tarps over their
heads.Rehabilitation will be a long process, but we believe that with your help we can definitely
make a difference. In our drive to help the villagers of Lalitpur get back on their feet, our first
step has been to provide relief by urgently providing the villagers with temporary shelter before
the monsoon rains set in, while the tents and tarps sent for relief operations either have been
stuck at the airport due to red tape, or get diverted to other regions. It will be a while before the
villages of Lalitpur get priority for distribution of such relief material and we want to make this
our first priority at the moment. Once the relief stage of the operation is over we plan to focus on
long term rehabilitation of this area. We shall keep you all regularly updated with our relief
operations in the villages and let you know exactly where and how your contributions have been
utilized
