Greeks

As an introduction, we are going to start talking about Greece in general.

We will use a map of Europe to locate some important places. We will locate: Greece,
the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, and Crete, the Balkan Peninsula, Albania,
Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey (Greeces borders), the Peloponnesus
peninsula and the Black Sea.

I will mention some important facts about Greece:

Greece is a parliamentary republic, the head of state, is the President of the

republic, who is elected by the Parliament for a five-year term. The current
President of Greece is Karolos Papoulias.
Administratively, Greece consists of thirteen peripheries. There is also an
autonomous area, called Mount Athos.
The capital city is called Athens.
The constitution of Greece recognizes the Greek Orthodox faith as the
"prevailing" religion of the country, while guaranteeing freedom of religious
belief for all.
Greece is today relatively homogeneous in linguistic terms, with a large majority
of the native population using Greek as their first or only language.
An important percentage of Greece's income comes from tourism.
