Subject : Electrical Lock

Introduction

In our project, we design a prototype named Electrical Lock for final exam (Phase

4), using Arduino programming.

The following proposal discusses the current situation at VGU, the need for such a

system,a discussion of the main components of the system, estimate deffectiveness, schedule

for development, group members contribution and estimated costs.

Background

With a purpose of learning to operate a connection between Arduino programming

and Android software via a Bluetooth receiver (HC-05),which is important to current life, it is

likely to improve the security system so as to protect properties in more safety condition, our

group determine to do a mini research on electrical lock.

In our project, there are some certain constraints and requirements, which we need to

find the measures to deal with them. In terms of the constraints, our system is operated base

on both Arduino and Android codes. In addition, the electrical lock is not well-controlled

telepathically due to the far distance of Bluetooth. We also must design an appropriate

mechanism which can help user to assemble easily. Besides, there are some requirements in

this project. Our locking system must have password to lock or unlock the system. The

password is likely to be reset or changed if users forget or have a need to change

correspondingly (followed Mr. Duongs requirements). Our project must be finalized before

final exam (Phase 4).

Description of the project

This project involves the design, installation and testing of a prototype system. The

proposed system will consist of a series of mechanical electrical keys that can operate and is

assembled with any household door. In our design, a servo is used for build our keys

simulation, there will be also 2 LEDs (red and green) to announce the user if they have

unlocked the lock or not. The user can control the lock as well as all of its function including

change password or reset password to the default by using an Android app programmed by

our group. Furthermore, basing on Arduino and Android codes, our lock is generated with

LCD and mobile phones screen that can show the current state of the electrical lock.

Bluetooth is used as a connection protocol between mobile phone and the lock because of

low cost and convenient usage.

Benefits of the system

The benefit of the model is that the electrical lock can lock and unlock the door

conveniently. ViaBluetooth signal, users can use it to open and close the door far-away rather

than other locks such as padlocks, number locks... By doing this project we could improve

and develop our professional ability like team-working skills, writing skills, even problem-

solving skills for designing schematic circuit, mechanism and firmware (Arduino and Android

codes). Furthermore, we can enrichmore knowledge and informationin scope and horizons

regarding Android and Arduino to control electrical lock, resulting more valuable applications

in other electrical devices or systems in current life.

Method or Approach and Schedule

In order to determine the effectiveness of the system, we propose the following course of

action to be carried out over a five-week period. The test should be conducted in laboratory

where has full of essential equipment, materials and guidelines, which can help us work in

better condition in order to make a fully worked-out electrical lock.

1st Week:

- Do a literature review to obtain information on existing designs of the

mechanical system.

- Do a comparison of vendor products to determine which would the most

suitable.

- Coordinate with Facilities Management for permission to borrow necessary

components at the laboratory.

2nd Week:

- Program Android App.

3|P a g e
- Program Arduino code.

3rd Week:

- Design the circuit board.

- Test and finalize the mechanical design.

4th Week:

- Find some more electrical and physical components to add more features to

the electrical lock.

- Make a prototype and test it.

5th Week:

- Test and complete the electrical lock.

Group members contribution

Conclusion

We realize that this project will create some milestones in security system using in

protecting safety properties. What is more, this may lead to a momentous turning-point of

security measures which takes part in improving the safety condition in practical way.

Furthermore, if combined with other hi-tech equipment, such as smart house and

implemented on a wider scale it could significantly bridge over the burdens about incursion in

Vietnam.
