Petrobras attends strategic workshop at

Rio de Janeiro R&D center

For more than five years Tenaris has met with

Petrobras through workshops evaluating the
demands, available solutions and technological
requirements for deepwater oil and gas
operations.
Titled "Technological Partnership for the Future,"
the most recent workshop was held from June 10-
11 at the Tenaris Research and Development
Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Participants were
introduced to Tenariss latest equipment, such as
a combined load full scale testing machine and
the metallurgy and welding technology lab.
The workshop also covered topics including line
pipe internal coating using liners, thermal coatings, risers, flowlines and hot
and cold welded pipe bends. In addition to Tenaris and Petrobras, the event
also featured the participation of Usiminas, an important partner in the
development of high tech materials with local content.
The four previous meetings resulted in a list of activities that are being
developed jointly by the companies, which include: new specifications, X65
sour service domestic steel, dimensional control of pipes, X70 and X80 sour
service steel, alpha fab, effect of thermal cycle on pipe collapse,
metallization and internal FBE, among others.
"We can see that what we were talking about seven years ago is now reality,
such as the X65 sour service steel used on Rota 3. It is gratifying to see
engineering and metallurgy knowledge being developed and retained here at
the Tenariss R&D Center," said Petrobras Onshore Pipeline Manager,
Marcelo Teixeira. "We must keep working on X80 and X100 steel grades for

the Libra oil field, because were going into much deeper waters, around
2,500, 3,000 meters..."he added.
Renato Catallini, Tenaris Brazilian Area Manager, closed the event by
reaffirming the importance of the meeting at a difficult moment for the
market: "This is a crisis which all companies are undergoing. I believe that
now is precisely the right time to follow through on new developments, find
different and innovative solutions. For me, the workshop was a triple success
due to the level and quality of the discussions. We were able to hold the
meeting at Rios Technological Park in our R&D Center next to the UFRJ,
the CENPES and the others that are here. Tenaris and Petrobras were also
able to continue carrying out this same event even in a time of crisis. This
shows the long-term commitment of our companies to the country."
