I. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of: pre-colonial Philippine literature as a means of connecting to the past; various reading styles; ways
of determining word meaning; the sounds of English and the prosodic features of speech; and correct subject-verb agreement.
Skills:
1. identify the distinguishing features of myths and legends when they encounter these texts;
2. explain the importance of literature as a means of connecting to a significant past;
3. use appropriate reading style for ones purpose;
4. explain how a selection may be influenced by culture, history, environment, or other factors;
5. unlock idioms by using different strategies;
6. use the different kinds of nouns in meaningful sentences through writing a narrative;
7. draw a distinction among critical vowel sounds;
8. produce the different vowel sounds correctly;
9. produce sentences with pronoun-antecedent and subject- verb agreement.

1. What does the Philippine ancient literature tell us about our ancestors and their society?
2. What influences can culture, history, environment and other factors have to a particular literary piece?
3. How are particular grammar points used as a means of effective writing?
4. How do use skimming and scanning in our daily reading activities?
5. How can interpretation of character traits foster better understanding of the story?
6. What would happen to our communication if there are no nouns?
7. Why do we need to learn the proper pronunciation and listening discrimination of vowel sounds?
8. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using idiomatic expressions in our oral and written communication?
9. How do the correct/ incorrect use of pronouns and antecedent and subject and verb affects our communication?
10. What are the advantages of being familiar with prefixes and suffixes?
