Lesson:
Studentswilllearnthe5requirementsofasentenceinateacher-ledpresentation,
whichincludesthedefinitionsofsubjectandpredicatesandhowtofindthemina
sentence.ThroughanIDo,WeDo,YouDoactivityontheiriPads,studentswillbe
abletofindsubjects,verbs,capitalization,andpunctuationanddetermineifthe
sentencemakessense.Ifoneismissing,studentswillpracticecorrectingthe
sentence.Theywillhaveasummativeassessmentonthebasicstoseeiftheyare
readytomoveon.
Evaluation:
Previously,IhaveusedKahoot!toassessstudentswithateacher-ledactivity.It
helpsmetoquicklyseewheretheyareatandaddressandmisconceptions.I
decidedtotryoutthewebsiteGoFormative.InGoFormative,Iwasabletoembed
thelessonwiththequestionsIwantedstudentstoanswer.Thisallowsstudentsto
reviewandgothroughtheassessmentattheirpace.IlikethatGoFormative,unlike
Kahoot!,allowsyoutotagstandardsforeachquestion.Additionally,youdonothave
tostickwithjustmultiple-choicequestions.GoFormativehasmultiple-choice,
multiple-answer,shortanswer,essay,true/falseandshowyourworkquestions.
Teacherscanseestudentsworkingontheassessmentastheyaredoingit,instead
ofneedingtowaituntiltheendwhenthestudentsubmits(likeSchoologyQuizzes
andotherplatforms).GoFormativealsoallowsyoutoaddvideosandothertypesof
media/learningtoolsrightintotheassessment.IdolikeKahootbecausewecango
throughittogetherandstudentscanseethatmanypeoplemighthavethesame
questionandwecantalkaboutittogether.However,Kahoot!hasaverylimited
use/purpose.
