A Great Statue to Honor a Great Man

A giant jade stone weighing 175 tons has been uncovered in Myanmar. The stone is 4.3m (14ft) high
and 5.8m (19ft) long, and is reportedly worth an estimated $170 million USD. The King of Thailand
was a great man and is worthy of great monument and unique monument to celebrate his
reign! Thailand already has the Emerald Buddha which is made out of jade in Bangkok and there
would be a pleasant aesthetic congruence between these two statues. A statue of the King of Thailand
made out of this giant jade stone would be worthy monument to his 70 year reign and his incredible
accomplishments.

The statue could be placed in Hua Hin due to this districts association with the Thai royal family and
the need for some upscale cultural tourism outside of Bangkok. The Hua Hin district already has the
Rajabhakti Park which has the statues of past Thai kings from the Sukhothai period to the current
royal house of Chakri. Rajabhakti Park would be a good location for the new statue since the other
statutes provide historical context. There also could be a museum that explains what the King of
Thailand accomplished. This museum could be used to educate Thai school children as well as the
world.

Myanmar could be offered scholarships to citizens of Myanmar to study in Thai universities equal to
the value of the giant jade stone. Myanmar has huge resources but needs an educated work force to
use these resources effectively. This act would solidify the friendship between Myanmar and
Thailand.

China probably has the best jade sculptors in the world. Perhaps the design and carving of the giant
jade stone could be a joint project between China and Thailand. An incredible monument to the
enduring friendship between the Thai and Chinese people. The fact that the statue would also draw
Chinese tourists to travel further afield than Bangkok would also be an advantage.
