RULES FOR CLASSIFICATIONS AND SURVEYS

Amendments
No. 001/KT /Amd/06/2014
Date: 09 June 2014

These sheets contain amendments within the following Sections of August 1st, 2014 issue of
the Volume I, Rules for Classifications and Surveys.

These amendments are effective from August 1st, 2014.

Section 2. Classification

B. Validity of Class

2.9 For condition which unforeseen inability of the Society to attend the vessel due to the
governmental restrictions on right of access or movement of personnel; unforeseeable
delays in port or inability to discharge cargo due to unusually lengthy periods of severe
weather, strikes or civil strife; acts of war see 2.10.

2.10 If due to circumstances reasonably beyond the owners or the Societys control as
mentioned in paragraph 2.9, the vessel is not in a port where the overdue surveys and
examination of Recommendations can be completed at the expiry of the periods
allowed above, the Society may allow the vessel to sail, in class, directly to an agreed
discharge port, and if necessary, hence, in ballast, to an agreed port at which the survey
will be completed, provided the Society:

a) exams the ships records;

b) carries out the due and/or overdue surveys and examination of Recommendations
/ Conditions of Class at the first port of call when there is an unforeseen inability
of the Society to attend the vessel in the present port, and
c) has satisfied itself that the vessel is in condition to sail for one trip to a discharge
port and subsequent ballast voyage to a repair facility if necessary. (Where there is
unforeseen inability of the Society to attend the vessel in the present port, the
master is to confirm that his ship is in condition to sail to the nearest port of call.)

The surveys to be carried out are to be based upon the survey requirements at the
original date due and not on the age of the vessel when the survey is carried out. Such
surveys are to be credited from the date originally due. If class has already been
automatically suspended in such cases, it may be reinstated subject to the conditions
prescribed in this paragraph

5.4 Vessels laid-up in accordance with the Societys Rules prior to surveys becoming
overdue need not be suspended when surveys addressed above become overdue.

1
However, vessels which are laid-up after being suspended as a result of surveys going
overdue, remain suspended until the overdue surveys are completed

5.6 When a vessel is intended for a single voyage from laid-up position to repair yard
with any periodical survey overdue, the vessel's class suspension may be held in
abeyance and consideration may be given to allow the vessel to proceed on a single
direct ballast voyage from the site of lay up to the repair yard, upon agreement with
the Flag Administration, provided the Society finds the vessel in satisfactory
condition after surveys, the extent of which are to be based on surveys overdue and
duration of lay-up. A short term Class Certificate with conditions for the intended
voyage may be issued. This is not applicable to vessels whose class was already
suspended prior to being laid-up

Section 3. Surveys General Requirements

A. General

1.9 If a ship has to be surveyed in a port beyond the reach of the Surveyor (also in the events of
force majeure or of armed conflicts); BKI Head Office will have to be notified. Upon
checking of the facts, the further procedure will then be decided on.In extraordinary cases and
with BKI Head Office agreement, it is possible to call for an external expert, whose report is,
however, subject to examination by BKI, who will decide on whether or not the ship will have
to be re-surveyed.

B. Surveys for Maintenance of Class Definition , Due Dates

1.6.3. Seagoing ships having a Character of Classification other than A100 to be subjected
to Dry-docking Surveys at interval 24 months

1.7.1 The class notation IW may only be assigned to the seagoing ship carrying character of
class A100 with construction supervision markings , , ()

1.7.3 On request of the owner an In-Water Survey in lieu of every first periodical Dry-
Docking Survey may only be carried out for ships without the Class Notation IW,
provided that the technical requirements are full filled and with the assistance of an
approved diving firm. The final permission will be given by BKI Head Office

1.7.5 In general, bottom survey shall be carried out in drydock. For vessels having the class
notation IW the inspections of the outside of ships bottom are to be carried out in
drydock at least twice in 5 year period. The interval between bottom inspection shall
not exceed 36 months. The remaining yearly inspections of the ships bottom may be
carried out in water by an approved diving company provided that the vessels has not
sustained any grounding or contact damage since the previous bottom inspection For
vessels less than 15 years of age and having the class notation IW , the first dry
docking by an in water survey is subject to the consent of BKI Head Office and is
valid for one substitution only. More extensive Flag State requirements regarding the
substitution of the bottom survey in dry dock shall be observed see 1.6.4 and C.1.1.1.3

C. Performance and Scope of Surveys

1.6.4.1 Other propulsion systems which also have maneuvering characteristics (such as
directional propellers, vertical axis propellers, water jet units) are to be examined
externally with focus on the condition of gear housing, propeller blades, bolt locking
and other fastening arrangements. Sealing arrangement of propeller blades, propeller
shaft and steering column shall be verified

Section 4. Surveys Special Ship Types

D. Liquefied gas Carrier

4.3.5.3 For membrane containment systems a tightness test of the primary and secondary
barrier shall be carriedout in accordance with the system designers procedures of
construction and testing standard as approved by the classification society. Low
differential pressure tests may be used for monitoring the cargo containment system
performance but are not considered an acceptable test for the tightness of the
secondary barrier

4.3.5.4 For membrane containment systems with glued secondary barriers if the desginers
threshold value are exceeded an investigation is to be carried out and additional
testing such as thermographic or accoustic emissions testing should be carried out
