Development of model based planning, control and reviewing civil engineering construction, network techniques, CPM, PERT, LOB, network crashing and time cost trade off, resources allocations, valuation, engineering economy and cost benefit analysis of project; principal building system as affected by environmental, legal, material, and industrial constraints; interrelationship among the components of the systems, functional requirement, development control rules, National building code 2005, planning and selection of foundation systems, foundation construction, piling system, construction procedures, pile construction problems, causes and remediation, construction of masonry work, floors, roofs, stairs, dam proofing and other components of buildings and relevant code of practices, earthquake resistant construction of buildings, computer applications in construction management, construction safety & health acts and management, contracts, tender, estimating and costing. 4. Proposed course description: Principal components of a building system and their interrelationships; functional planning and requirements of a building and its components using relevant codes; building processes; types and construction of foundation systems, masonry, walls, floors, roofs, vertical transportation, doors, windows, building finishes, plumbing services, damp proofing; temporary supporting structures; introduction to planning and scheduling of projects; construction project network analysis; Introduction to quantity estimation, costing and valuation; contracts, tenders; engineering economy and cost benefit analysis of a project; introduction to building information modeling; computer applications in construction management. 5. Justification for the change in course description: Curriculum review experts and CCDCA observed that the existing course content is too large to be effectively taught over 41-42 lectures, with adequate importance to the critical topics. Topics removed are earthquake resistant building, construction safety & health acts and management. 6. Have the proposed changes been discussed in Departmental committee on academics (DCA ) and the cross campus Departmental Committee on Academics (CCDCA)? Yes. And Yes. Consensus reached.
