PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Practicum Four Tyalla PS IMO (36 Days) February June 2017
SUMMARY COMMENT: Overall comments by the Mentor Teacher on the student teachers progress during this Professional Experience. Please
include comments about the Pre service Teachers literacy, numeracy and personal attributes including, areas of strength and areas that require
improvement.
Jasmine has developed her understandings in how to plan for and implement effective teaching and learning programs. During the course of
her practicum she has become more experienced in defining and specifying exactly the content she is addressing. One of Jasmines strengths
is her ability to assess tasks in an ongoing nature, moderate these tasks and record the results. The next logical step is to then provide this as
age appropriate feedback to her students. Jasmine has been able to create and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. She is
very warm to the students and they have responded to her in kind. Jasmine has behaved professionally in every encounter with colleagues,
parents/carers and the community. Schools are very busy environments. Things are forgotten and misplaced. We try to minimise this, not lay
blame (including yourself) and deal with the problem effectively.

Practicum Three Boambee PS KD (30 Days) October November 2016

SUMMARY COMMENT: Overall comments by the Mentor Teacher on the student teachers progress during this Professional Experience. Please
include comments about the Pre-service Teachers literacy, numeracy and personal attributes appropriate for teaching.
Jasmine displays a professional attitude to the students, parents and staff. She is keen to plan lessons of a high quality in advance and due to
her excellent planning, all lessons flow smoothly. Jasmine has developed an excellent rapport with the students in the class and they have
responded positively to her lessons. She is always keen to become involved in all school activities. Jasmine is developing a good knowledge
of the numeracy and literacy outcomes in Kindergarten. Jasmine has been involved with entering plan data linked with the numeracy and
literacy continuum. She enthusiastically assists with the daily running of a classroom and has been punctual at all times. Jasmine assumes
classroom responsibilities without prompting and displays a confident teaching style. She evaluates and reflects on the effectiveness of
teaching and learning experiences and adjusts further planning as required. Both the class and I have loved having Jasmine in the classroom.

Practicum One Woolgoolga PS 5W (15 Days) August September 2014

Overall comments by the Mentor Teacher on the student teachers strengths and areas for improvement on this professional experience.
Jasmine has a natural rapport with children which has seen her have a fantastic first practicum. She has worked very hard to address her
initial areas which needed improvement and in doing so provided engaging and inclusive lessons. Her effervescent nature has led to a
wonderful relationship being established both in the classroom and playground. I have no doubt that Jasmine will make a wonderful teacher
and wish her all the best for her future studies.

Personal Philosophy
I believe that our children are our future and as an educator, it is my responsibility to nurture and provide a safe
and secure environment that challenges, excites, encourages and builds upon a childs learning and understandings
(APST Standard 4). However, as children don't care what you know until they know that you care, I believe that it is
vital to develop strong, positive relationships with them by taking an interest, providing praise and encouragement and
to continually build on their understanding and belief of their own being, belonging and becoming (APST Standard 1).
As an educator, we can only learn about and influence so much about a child on our own. To really understand
all aspects of the child and support their learning as a whole, educators must value the profound knowledge parents
and carers have, and how strong their influence is on their childs education. To best support students learning both at
school and at home, teachers need to engage parents by developing positive partnerships with mutual trust and respect
while inviting and supporting parents and carers to become actively involved in their childrens learning (APST
Standard 7).
Children learn through play and receive delight in the joys of exploring the environments around them, whether
this is done on their own or collaboratively through interactions with others (APST Standard 1). Children need to be
given the freedom to explore and question new and past understandings, as children are encouraged to adopt a love for
learning which they will carry with them throughout their lives. As an educator, I will encourage and facilitate this
sense of wonderment and joy of learning (APST Standard 2). In play the mess will wash off, but the learning will
persist.
The diversity of children within an educational setting means that each child will have their own individual way
of learning, their own strengths, abilities, interests and engagement in the world around them. As an educator, it is my
responsibility to discover what these are through open communications with the child, their families and my own
observations (APST Standard 1). Through this, I can provide meaningful and relevant teaching with high standards in
order to extend and scaffold childrens learning and incorporate technology to connect my children with the world in
order to prepare them for the future (APST Standard 3).
I will endeavour to document my observations of childrens learning using a range of techniques such as
learning stories, anecdotal notes, jottings and photos, sharing my observations with both the child and families,
working continually to provide each child with relevant, engaging and exciting learning moments (APST Standard 5).
By deciding to be a teacher, I have committed myself to lifelong learning and am excited for what my children
will teach me (APST Standard 6).
