Big Understanding: This lesson is essential to your safety and success in this class by introducing you to correct
procedures to handle all the supplies.
Summative Assessment Evidence: I will assess the class based on the accuracy of the matches, their answer
on the post-it, and bringing back the signed lab safety sheet signed by them and their parent or guardian.
Instructional Strategies / Student Activities/ Grouping Patterns: Groups of 4 and then independent task
Teacher Input/Modeling: IDO: I tell the students the rules of the game and put them in groups. After the
game, I put up a power point presentation going over the rules of the classroom lab. I then have the students write
on a post-it and stick it to the white paper on the wall.
Guided Practice: WE DO: As a group, we will discuss the correct matches out loud, cover procedures and
rules of the lab.
CFU (Checking for understanding): Verify student matches and responses to prompt question.
Independent Practice: YOU DO (Individual students): The students will match the cards together, write on
the post-it and stick to the wall. After this, they will sign their safety procedures paper, and bring home to get
signed by parent or guardian.
