Key Roles & Responsibilities

Primary Role Description

The VP Application Development is responsible for providing leadership in the design and development of the
company's internal and customer applications. Work closely with the business to effectively translate business
strategy and objectives into technological capability, while collaborating with Architecture to assure
technological compatibility and compliance with the architectural road map. Drive strategy and manage resources
(both internal and vendor) to ensure best in class solutions that are of high quality, cost effective (on budget),
sustainable and market leading.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Responsible for enterprise-wide application development, application support of all 3rd party business /
clinical / administrative solutions, integration / EDI and Software Quality Assurance.
Responsible for promoting technology innovation by identifying and researching new and relevant
technologies to support the enablement of a digital enterprise and delivering on business goals
Collaborate with IT / Business / Clinical leadership in evolving vision for end-user solutions and technologies
to drive efficiency and productivity
Forge collaborative relationships with IT teams, business and clinical partners
Drive innovation and creative solutions to business and technical challenges on an on-going basis
Manage software vendor relationships, contracts, licensing and outsourcing relationships
Direct development teams, integration engineers and software quality assurance
Direct the application management team including goal setting, performance management, coaching,
mentoring and ensuring the team's skills, certifications and capabilities are kept up-to-date through the
development of training and development programs
Responsible for IT strategic planning, resource capacity planning and generation of an IT applications road-
map
Budget, track and forecast spend, evaluate net technologies and development efforts (make vs buy decisions)
Ensure application development initiatives are well managed and deliver on expectations regarding
functionality, timeliness and cost.
Installation and delivery of application software using an Agile development life-cycle
Drive the creation and implementation of automated testing frameworks that reduce QA cycles and improve
team velocity
Provides leadership to ensure application development and support teams work collaboratively with other IT
and business teams while ensuring architecture and security standards, tracking metrics and continuous
improvement standards are adhered too.
Plans, directs, coordinates and reviews all the work activities of the application development and support
teams. Meets with teams to identify and resolve roadblocks.
Continue the advancement of leveraging Agile Processes, Acceptance Test Driven Development and
Continuous Integration / Deployment

Provide strategic direction and day-to-day leadership to a team of technical employees.


Develop and maintain an organization of high performing people through effective hiring, coaching and
rigorous performance/talent management processes.
Influence and implement a resource strategy (internal vs. vendor) based on business need, scope of work,
cost, and skill requirements.
Foster a collaborative, success-oriented team environment where resources are empowered and accountable.

Asset Stewardship

Collaborate with the business to understand business strategy and needs, customer needs and market trends.
Collaborate with architecture and leadership on design of a supporting technology strategy (including a multi-
year road map) that aligns with architectural design, plan and standards.
Provide cost and feasibility analysis to support and gain strategy approval. Implement and drive strategy.
Oversee annual asset health and security assessments and incorporate output into the development strategy.

Project Delivery

Ensure that solution design and delivery meet business requirements and expectations regarding cost,
schedule and scope.
Deliver operational excellence through development, formal release schedules and release management
processes, service level agreements (SLAs), problem resolution through system monitoring, and change
management.

Vendor Management

Collaborate with the enterprise procurement team to ensure appropriate procurement processes are followed
and to assist in effective management of vendor relationships.
Release Strategy
Strategically plan and prioritize software/solution releases within planned release schedules based on
enterprise business strategy, business and technology need, and impact while assuring appropriate scope,
size and impact of releases to end users.

Financial Management

Participate in the annual budget and financial planning process for assigned organization, technical assets
and related projects.
Champion Standards & Methodologies
Champion and ensure compliance with organizational standards, practices and methodologies.
Key Requirements Education & Certificates

MCA/ BE/ BTech

Key Requirements - Experience & Skills

Should have 18 + years of relevant experience in technology with exposure to BFSI/ Insurance
segment for at least 7 years
