Social media connects the world

Nowadays, technology is our big tool, internet is everyones best friend and social media

is the new mean of communication between people. Since Mark Zuckerberg and other Harvard

students opened Facebook, millions and millions have created a Facebook profile. If this

phenomenon is happening, it is not because social media is bad for us. Every day, more and more

people become social media users because they want to connect with other in minutes.

Considering this, I believe social media is good for social interaction.

Social media connects the world in different ways. In fact, according to a new survey,

36% of smartphone owners report using messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Kik or iMessage,

and 17% use apps that automatically delete sent messages such as Snapchat or Wickr (Duggan,

2015). These apps are developing social media which means that communication around the

world is being adapted to the social network and becoming the most used mean of

communication. For this, I think that social media gives us many facilities to get in touch. One of

them is that you dont need to be in the same place to talk with someone else. Communication is

essential, especially when we talk about families. However, communication could be difficult if

you or any of your relatives live far away, but now using social media you can interact with them

all the time and share your life. Furthermore, to connect the world means to be up to date with

news. In the past, people needed to wait a long time to know what was happening in the world.
Currently, a majority of U.S. adults 62% get news on social media, and 18% do so often,

according to a new survey by Pew Research Center (Gottfried and Shearer, 2016). This fact

shows the speed of communications trough social media. For this, I believe social media

improves social connections.

In conclusion, social media is good for us because it is joining people worldwide. We live

in a world that evolves constantly, and social media is part of this process. In my opinion, social

media is one of the best inventions in our history. Now, we have this tool, we just need to use it

in the best way to connect us and the world.
