A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

It was the greatest sermon ever preached. Jesus went up on a
mountain and shared with those who had gathered, how they
could be a genuine disciple.

On Sunday, well take a look at a few of those passages from the

Sermon on the Mount and learn more of the specifics on how to
be a Christian. This is a relevant message for today!

If you are going through a stressful time, or, you just need a break
from the pressures of everyday living, the words of Jesus will
help! The following is the passage Ill be preaching from for
additional information, Ill see you at 10:00 AM!

Matthew 6:28-34 (NLT)

28
And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and
how they grow. They dont work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in
all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares
so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire
tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31
So dont worry about these things, saying, What will we eat? What will
we drink? What will we wear? 32 These things dominate the thoughts of
unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your
needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and
he will give you everything you need.
So dont worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own
34

worries. Todays trouble is enough for today.

November 19th the altar Colors are green,

of lving things and the promise of new life!

Our suggested Scripture reading from the 2017 UCC Church Calendar, is
found in Romans 7:15-25.
Romans 8:1-11 (NLT)
Life in the Spirit
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ
Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving
Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. 3 The
law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our
sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own
Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God
declared an end to sins control over us by giving his Son as a
sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the
law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful
nature but instead follow the Spirit.
5
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful
things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about
things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control
your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind
leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God.
It never did obey Gods laws, and it never will. 8 Thats why those who
are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
9
But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled
by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And
remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in
them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so
even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you
life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God,
who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised
Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by
this same Spirit living within you.

A Message from The Moderator Some Good News!

The Pastor, Music Director Brian Sampson, and Moderator John Peters
received some exciting news on Wednesday, July 12th! Here is a copy of
the letter that is being sent out to the Members and Friends of Dearborn
Congregational Church. I think youll agree; we serve an awesome God!

Dear Members & Friends of Dearborn Congregational Church,

We have good news to report - our goal to raise funds for new
hymnals has been achieved! Thanks to the generosity of a single
donor from outside the congregation, the entire cost of buying new
hymnals for the church has been covered! The bill has been paid,
the hymnals have been shipped, and are on their way as I'm writing
this.

However, since many of you have already made a donation towards

the new hymnals, you might be wondering what's going to happen
with your donation now that it is no longer needed for that purpose.

If you made a contribution designated for new hymnals either during

the Sunday offering or by mail in the past month, please contact me
and let me know how we may re-direct your donation - either by
applying it to your regular giving to the church, or to one of the
designated church funds.

Nevertheless, we heartily thank you for stepping up to the plate

and contributing towards our effort to upgrade our musical
offerings on Sunday mornings!

Blessings to you and yours,

John Peters
Moderator

Helping the Needy

We are now collecting non-perishable food
donations that will be delivered to the Fish &
Loaves food pantry, in Taylor. This organization
was first launched by an ecumenical group of
churches, led by St. Paul United Church of Christ
in Taylor and their Pastor, Rev. Geoff Drutchas.
Fish & Loaves offers needy families and individuals a wide range of canned
goods, refrigerated and frozen foods, dairy products, and seasonal produce
at no cost to clients. Since opening its doors in 2008, the Fish & Loaves
Pantry has assisted more than 9100 households and over 13,000 men,
women, and children. They distribute over two million pounds of food
annually.

What The Bible Says About

President Harry Trumans famous plaque on his Oval Office desk

read, The Buck Stops Here. In other words, whatever the blame or
responsibility that passed from one person to another, it ended with
him!

Similarly, the Bible represents our final authority for knowing Gods
will for our lives. From the Book of Isaiah to St. Pauls Letter to the
Colossians this is going to be an exciting adventure.
Each week - a different topic for study. Are you ready to discover
what the Bible says about the many issues of importance in your life?

See you Tuesday, July 18th at 7:00 PM!

On July 30th its SINGING SERMON SUNDAY!

On Sunday, July 16th, we will be
receiving your gifts designated to the
Our Churchs Wider Mission.

widely known for the mission
outreach work of the UCC because of
our disaster ministries. This arm of
the church also serves congregations
and other settings of the church who
strive to be inclusive .

In partnership with the Disciples of Christ, Common Global Ministries is the

ecumenical global sharing of resources and prophetic vision of a just and peaceful
world order, joining with Gods concern for the poor and oppressed.

All of this work being long-term mission is accomplished through over 70 trusting
partnerships, 90 full-time deployed volunteer staff, 88 educational mission trip host
sites, and shared resources for supporting those in need. We also gather mission
reports from 164 UCC groups with over 5,500 members. We provide a
programmatic presence in disaster recovery, immersion training centers, and service
and learning sites to offer leverage and systemic support for wider ecumenical host
sites, grassroots initiatives and mission trip participants.
