The Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (EVIP) supports the adoption of electric vehicles
(EVs), rewards early adopters, and helps to create market demand for new technology in
Ontario by providing incentives for the purchase and/or lease of eligible EVs.
EVIP began in 2010 and, as of January 1, 2017, has been updated to further support the
goals of Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan by:
Vehicles with a battery capacity from 5 to 16 kilowatt-hours (kWh) are eligible for
incentives ranging between $6,000 to $10,000 based upon the battery size of the
vehicle;
Vehicles with a battery capacity of larger than 16kWh are also eligible for an additional
$3,000 incentive;
Vehicles with five or more seats are also eligible for an additional $1,000 incentive;
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price
(MSRP) of $75,000 to $150,000 are eligible for a maximum incentive value of $3,000;
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and PHEVS with an MSRP of $150,000 or greater are not
eligible for an incentive; and,
Leased vehicles are eligible for an EVIP incentive. Vehicles with a 12 month lease term
will receive 33% of the incentive, 24 month lease term receives 66% of the incentive and
leased vehicles with a 36 month or longer term will receive the full incentive.
You must complete and submit the Electric Vehicle Incentive Program Application
Form, including all necessary supporting documents, to apply for an incentive.
If you have any questions please refer to the Electric Vehicle Incentive Program
Guide. You can also refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.
To confirm if your EV is eligible for EVIP and the amount of the incentive for which it
qualifies, please refer to the EVIP Eligible Vehicles List.
Please note that EVs with an MSRP over $150,000 are not eligible for an EVIP incentive.
If you are an (Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and you wish to have your
vehicles become eligible for an EVIP incentive, you must complete and submit the EVIP
New Eligible Vehicle Formfor consideration.
Demonstrator vehicles in EVIP are vehicles that have less than 2,000 km at the point of
sale and registration. A demonstrator vehicle can only be used for customer test drive. It
cannot have been used for personal or other business purposes by the dealership or its
employees/management.
However, if you are a dealer and you wish have a demonstrator vehicle with mileage
between 2,000km and 15,000 km on the odometer be eligible for an incentive, you must
complete and submit the EVIP Extended Mileage Demo Application Form prior to
the vehicle having 2,000 km on the odometer. A dealer must also complete the EVIP
Extended Mileage Demo Log as the vehicle is being used and provide it to the
purchaser/lessee. The log must be submitted as supporting documentation when
applying for an incentive.
If the demonstrator vehicle has less than 2,000 km on the odometer when it is bought or
leased, this form does not have to be completed.
