Practicalities - Money Exchange

1 Euro= 4,5645 RON (Romanian LEI) on 14th of

JULY 2017

This is the official website of the Romanian National Bank for

the Exchange Rate:

http://www.cursbnr.ro/
You could bring EURO/GBP with you and you can exchange them in RON
currency in the airport but we do NOT recommend you to change them in the
airport because the exchange rate is really not convenient ! We recommend you
to change just for the bus tickets or for the Taxi from the airport to the city.
In Bucharest there are many exchange offices (opened until quite late in the
afternoon).
How to get from the Airport to the City ?
Bucharest has 2 airports but only one is currently working, the other
one being under renovation/reconstruction
The airport where you will be landing is called Henri Coanda-Otopeni
Airport (OTP)
From the OTP Henri Coanda-Otopeni Airport there are 2 EXPRESS
Buses: no. 780 and no. 783. 783 goes to the center of Bucharest
(Unirii Square and University Square) and 780 goes to the North Railway
Station (Gara de NORD).
See the maps of the EXPRESS BUSES here:
http://www.ratb.ro/maps1/780.jpg and
http://www.ratb.ro/maps1/783.jpg

ATTENTION: At your departure from Bucharest be careful 'cause there

are 2 airports on your way, first is going to be the Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu
Airport (the one that is under renovation/reconstruction) and afterwards
at the end of the line of the two Express Bus Lines, you will reach the
Henri Coanda-Otopeni Airport (OTP)
How to get from the Airport to the City ?

In Bucharest we have also UBER and its really good, it has

same price as with the Taxies and the services are way better.
They always have nice drivers and very good cars so we
recommend you, if you can, to use UBER in the city, instead of a Taxi.

From the Airport, of course, you can get a Taxi.

The good part is that at the Airport there are special
machines (touch screen terminals) through which you
can order a taxi. Through this system, the taxies are
coming fast at your order and there should not be
problems
During the night, taxies have the same price per kilometre as during the day

The price per kilometre is normally not more than 1,40 RON/km !
How to get from the Airport to the City ?
Depending on the hour and the traffic, coming or going to or from the
Airport, can be fast. Usually it's not taking much time to travel from the city
center, from Unirii Square (Piata Unirii) or University (Universitate) Square
(Piata Universitatii) to the airport. NOT more than 45 minutes

Practicalities - Local transport in Bucharest

We recommend you to make yourself some time to visit our
Capital and tell us afterwards how was it
If you need, you can leave your luggage at the North Railway
Station (Gara de NORD) The prices here are low, 5 LEI (RON) or
10 LEI (RON) for a whole day or something like this.
If you are in the city, it's very easy to reach the touristic points or anything
that you need, with the Subway/METRO - look for the M " sign.
Check this link for the map of the Bucharest METRO :
http://www.ghidbucurestean.ro/Metrorex/harta-metrou-bucuresti.png
Be careful because there are only 4 lines, the pointed lines are routes under
construction (they don't exist yet!) !
Practicalities - Local transport in Bucharest
The Metro is very cheap in Bucharest. The prices are :

2 ways 5 RON
10 ways 20 RON

There is also a Tourist City Bus and more info about it you can find at:
http://bucharestcitytour.ratb.ro/index_eng.html
Driving

We drive on the RIGHT side of the

road like, for example, in Italy,
Germany, Spain, Poland, etc

Socket (Plug In)

Speed limits on Romanian roads are as follows: 50 km/h
in built-up areas, 90 km/h on open roads, 100 km/h on European
national roads (E) and 120 km/h on motorways
In Romania you give way to traffic coming from your right
Wearing seat belts is mandatory

We use sockets (plug ins) like in Spain,

Germany, France, Bulgaria and other continental European
countries (besides Italy!)
In Romania we use the European emergency number for calling Police,
Ambulance and the Fire Department:

Health Insurance

We strongly recommend you

to have a health insurance during
the time of this project.

Its not expensive, 8 - 9 euro and it takes only 10 minutes to make one.
Take into consideration that you will be in a foreign country with
strangers and in case if somethings going to be wrong, you will need it.
The place where we will have the activities:
We will be working on 29 and 30th of August, at the FTMB building

FTMB comes from the acronym of Fundatia pentru Tineret a Municipiului

Bucuresti which means in translation Foundation for Youth of Bucharest
City

Their website can be accessed at: http://www.ftmb.ro/ but unfortunately

they dont have it also in English language

The exact address of the building is : Calea Serban Voda, 213, Bucuresti,
Sector 4, Bucureti 052034, Romania (see the Google Maps slide)

Its close to Eroii Revolutiei and Tineretului Metro stations that are also
very close to Unirii (1 metro station away) which is the Center of the City and
where the Old Center is the Old Town
Hotels and Hostels that we recommend :
HOTELS :
http://www.europaroyalebucharest.com/ - its right in the Old Center and we
think you would like it the most
http://www.zhotels.ro/index.html - this is also close to the Old Center (at
Universitate) and they are famous for the Rooftop Bar and Restaurant
http://www.hotelcismigiu.ro/en/Hotel-Rooms - as well, near Universitate and
the Old Center, a famous name for a famous hotel

HOSTELS :
Hostels are very cheap in Bucharest and the ones that are we suggesting
you now, are right in the middle of the Old Center:
