Kamdhenu Dairy Scheme

100 animals (Cows/Buffaloes) in milk

Background:

Uttar Pradesh is the largest milk producing State in the country.


Though Uttar Pradesh, with the production 241.939 lacs M.T. of milk during
the year 2013-14is the largest milk producing State in the country, yet
average productivity of animals is low in comparison to other states of the
country mainly due to less availability of high yielding germ plasm animals in
the State.
In order to over come the low availability of high yielding germ plasm
animals, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has launched interest free
Kamdhenu Dairy Scheme, which envisage establishment of dairy units of
100 high yielding animals procured from outside the State.
The number of dairy units to be established under this scheme by 31 of
March 2017 is 300.
Objective
To ensure production and availability of high quality milk producing animals in
the State.
To develop high yielding milk producing animals` germ plasm center of
excellence in the State.
To ensure availability of high milk yielding animals to the farmers in the State.

Salient Features
a) Each unit will consist of 100 animals (Cows/Buffaloes) in milk
b) Cows will be only of either cross bred Jersey, or cross bred H.F. or Shahiwal
breed, Buffaloes will be of Murrah breed only.
c) Farmers/Beneficiaries will decide whether the unit will be of cows only or
buffaloes only or a mixed of the two with whatever number. However the
cows to be kept in a dairy unit will be of only one breed i.e. either all of the
cross bred Jersey or cross bred H.F. or Sahiwal breed.
d) All the animal under this scheme are to be purchased from outside the State .
e) The beneficiary should have at least two Acres of Land, excluding the land
required for construction of Sheds and Godowns etc.
f) Total cost of each dairy unit of 100 animals (Cows/Buffaloes) in milk
including the shed, Bio Gas Plant, Grinder cum Feed mix Plant and Silo Pit
has been estimated Rs. 121.52 Lacs.
g) Minimum 25% of total unit cost i.e. Rs. 30.38 Lacs is to be borne by the
beneficiary from his own resources in the form of margin money and rest
amount i.e. maximum up to Rs. 91.14 Lacs would come as loan from Bank.
h) Interest at rate of 12% per year on loan amount taken from bank will be
reimbursed by Government of Uttar Pradesh up to five years (60 Months) up to
the maximum limit of Rs. 32.82 lacs in five years for each unit.

Project Cost

A) Capital Investment :
Cost of 100 animals in milk & Cost of one bull (Murrah bull)
along with transport and insurance Rs, 7868600.00

B) Investment on Infrastructure
Animal Shed, Bull shed, Heifer shed, Godown
& Silo Pit etc. Rs. 2109000.00

C) Investment on Equipments
Power chef cutter, Grinder cum Feed mix Plant,
Gober Gas Plant & Milking Machine etc. Rs. 2174500.00

Total Cost (A+B+C) Rs. 12152100.00
