Title: Downforce generation of Formula-theme open wheeled race car

Aim:
Study of Inverted multi-element airfoils in ground effect and their contribution in the overall downforce
generation of FSAE open wheeled race car
Objective:
The objective of this study is to select the optimum airfoils for front and rear wings of our FSAE race car so that
they can be used to generate high downforce to reduce the lap time in endurance event of FSAE.
Methodology:
It is observed in recent years that the use of Aero-package in FSAE cars has been greatly increased. In fact, the
teams have realized the role which aerodynamics plays on the race track. Almost all the previous years winning
teams have some kind of aerodynamic devices installed on their cars. Thus the purpose of the present work is to
select the a set of airfoils for front and rear wings of race car so that it can generate high downforce to reduce the
lap time in the event of FSAE.
It is required to test different airfoils on a wind tunnel test rig (if wind tunnel is available). Also, the computational
fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques would be used in the selection of an appropriate airfoil. Firstly, the CFD
modelling is validated and then it will be used for the analysis of the designed airfoil. Different modelling
techniques and software will be used to get best results.
