Logic Gates Prac

Aim: To learn the function of AND gates, OR gates and NOT gates.

Background: The Logic Gates used in this prac have one or two inputs. The
inputs can be connected to a positive or negative side of the
battery. This is done by connecting a wire from the input to the
top or bottom of one of the yellow joiners. The top represents
the circuit being ON and the bottom represents OFF. To
simplify recording, use 1 for ON and 0 for OFF
Each Logic Gate has one Output. The TekPak Boards have a
light (called a LED) to show the Output. Light on means the
output is ON or 1.
In this prac, results are to be recorded in tables. These are called
Truth Tables.

Method: Connect the following circuit. Use an AND gate or an OR gate

for the second TekPak Board.

Join a battery to the Battery

Connector.
Battery Logic Gate
Collect two wires.

Complete the appropriate table below by connecting the inputs of the gate in
different combinations as indicated. Record the output.
Change the gate and fill out the other table.

What is the function of the AND Gate?

Why is it called an AND Gate?

What is the function of the OR Gate?

Why is it called an OR Gate?

Repeat the experiment using an INVERTER. (This is a NOT Gate.) Make a

table to record your results.

What is the function of the NOT gate?

Why is it called a NOT gate?

How can these gates be used in an alarm circuit?

Conclusion: Reread the aim and write a summary.
