RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BACHELOR / MASTER / DOCTORAL THESES

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SALZBURG

RECOMMENDATIONS:

a) Font and Font Size: Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial -> 11 or 12 pt,
Headlines -> 12 to 14 pt and Footnotes -> 8 to 10 pt
b) Line Pitch -> 1.5
c) Main Text in grouped style
d) Frame: top -> 2.5 cm, bottom -> 2 cm,
left and right -> 2.5 cm (standard word document)
e) Top Line and Footer: title of the thesis and page number; optional: title of the main
chapter
f) Page Numbers: in Table of Contents and other Tables (e.g. Table of Figures)
before the main text: Roman Numerals (I, II, III, etc),
after the main text: Arabic Numerals (1, 2, 3, etc)
g) Print: on high-quality non-transparent white paper, both-sided print is allowed, the
cover has to be self-supporting
h) Statutory declaration

SPECIAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BACHELOR / MASTER / DOCTORAL THESES:

a) Diploma and Master Theses as well as Bachelor Theses (Engineering Sciences)


a. Front Page:
i. Title
ii. Type of Thesis (e.g. Master Thesis)
iii. to obtain the academic degree [.] (e.g. Master of Science) at the
iv. Faculty, University
v. Author
vi. Supervisor / Reviewer
vii. Department of Supervisor / Reviewer
viii. Salzburg, [.] (e.g. month, year)
b. Abstract: please use only one page for the German and the English abstract
c. Bound: the Bachelor / Master Thesis has to be self-supporting, therefore a
hard-bound as well as a soft-bound version of the thesis is recommended;
please do not use any spiral binding

d. Attachment: cards, photos, data on CDs have to be added at the inner back of
the cover in form of a small envelop; please mention any attachment directly
in the Table of Contents
e. Number of submitted Bachelor / Master Theses: this differs within the various
degree programmes;
2 copies have to be sent to the University Library; other copies are handed to
the supervisor and if necessary to the Department Library:
4 copies: Bachelor Thesis (Engineering Sciences) (6 copies Bachelor Thesis
Engineering Sciences at Technical University Munich)
3 copies: Diploma Thesis
3 copies: Master Thesis (4 copies Master Thesis Mathematics)
2 copies: Diploma/Master Thesis at the Interfaculty Department of Sports
Sciences and if necessary an additional copy for the supervisor
f. CD-ROM: Together with the bound copies you have to submit an electronical
version of your Thesis in pdf format on CD-ROM

b) Doctoral Theses
a. Front Page:
i. Title
ii. Type: Doctoral Thesis
iii. to obtain the academic degree [] (e.g. Doctor of Natural Sciences)
at the

c) Master Thesis at an University Course


To your notice: There is no obligation by law indicating that a Master Thesis
composed at an University Course has to be sent to the University Library or the
Department Library. Therefore the following suggestions have to be considered as
recommendations!
